Is Swaim an Every Down Player?

Swaim is playing every snap just like Witten in his prime.

Is he Qualified to be playing every snap at this Juncture of his career? He seems kind of green and inexperienced to me.

It seems like that on most NfL rosters the snapcounts are allocated in the skilled positions based upon the impact of the player. The best players get more snapcounts.

Do you think he a good enough blocker and receiver to warrant playing every snap without a break and develop into the Ironman possession receiving Te that Jw was in his prime?

He is probably the closest thing we have at tight end.

Swaim is a JAG at best.....at best

I have no idea why the genius of Stephen Jones felt he didnt need a real TE
Witten retired right before the draft. Most of the fas had already been signed by that time. As stated by the team media they hadn't scouted tight ends for this draft because they weren't expecting the retirement. Not sure why because Witten had looked to be well over the hill for a few years but if you remember there were several posters here that said they would smash their tv if Dallas took a tight end high. Basically they got caught flat footed. It's going to be interesting to see how much it bites them in the ***, although they should at least be able to get what Witten was giving them. May be biased, thought they should have been looking for someone 2 years ago!

I think as defenses catch on that swaim is playing every snap but not getting very much production they will tighten up coverage on everyone else and make us beat them w Swaim.

What is the worst thing that could happen if Swaim did catch a pass. He's only avg 6 yards per catch. Lol.

I think any nfl team could shut Swaim down with their weakest lb or db. We'll see if he has a break out in production and morphs in jw in his prime. I'm not even for sure he can morph into a washed up Hanna much less the shell of the witten we been watching for the last 5-6 years.

Swaim is the most every down TE we have.

But since he's very limited as a receiver going back to pee wee do you think we should play him every down? Or substitute on passing downs with another te, rb or wr with receiving aptitude and bonifide stats?

In comparison If Hanna had played every snap last year instead of Jw would we have went 9-7?

Jarwin was a good down the field receiver in college and the team raved about his work in practice to the point that he had to be signed. Why haven’t we seen more of him in that 1st TE role? Swaim is not a receiving threat at all.

They screwed the pooch if they didn’t scout TEs. You always scout every position cause you never know what will fall in your lap.

Swaim is a 3rd TE at best he is a special team player. I know TEs are thin but he probably is the worst starter in the league.

I've been grumbling about this all along. We still play as though Witten is still playing. We still call for the boring, vanilla two TE sets over 50% of the time. These TE are slower than my grandpa. Yet we place alot of blame on Dak for the inept passing game. The playcaller and the coach should be the one put to blame here. Not Dak.

I was hoping our base offense would be 3 wide and a FB, and not play any of these meh TEs that much.

Garrett has always put a priority on blocking for TEs. He likes inline guys who can contribute to blocking.

Swaim isn't a thrilling receiver, but the other TEs are relatively limited for pass blocking and experience.

Swaim is 3 down for what the team wants. 0 down for what I was hoping for, but maybe Olawale isn't living up to their hopes for him.

It's the usual "next man up" bs. We don't adjust to the players we have. We have our system, and plug in players like they're interchangeable. Garrett spent years with TEs playing fullback.

He's been here for 4 years and you can blame the staff for him being green and inexperienced. They were too scared to work in young TEs to get some experience. We refused to rest Witt a few more plays. A few more plays of rest here and there would have helped gain the younger guys some rest and keep Witt a little fresher throughout the game. In the past, we pulled a young 20's Zeke to keep him fresh, whether he needed it or not and we refused to do that to a mid 30's Witt with a lot of miles on his tires.

TE has always been an important position for this team and having a good TE is a big help for a young QB. The FO did precious little, to improve such a pivotal position for this team. Honestly, looking at the off-season moves made and not made, this year was about setting up for next off-season. The FO couldn't come out and say that and risk losing ticket sales or fan support, so Jerry does what Jerry does well, spin how great the moves are and that they had hit a glory hole of young, inexperienced or average players.

Swaim is what he is. He has moderate skills in both receiving and blocking, which basically renders him "just another guy." With that being the case, he'll see enough action to be noticed, although he's unlikely to do much more than that. All in all, he'll do 'til someone better comes along. ;)

Nope. Would be nice to pick up a guy like Brate from TB who seems to be moving down the depth chart with OJ Howard there. He only played 14 snaps last week to Howard's 46 so the writing may be on the wall there.
Another guy who could possibly be had a lot cheaper would be Charles Clay with Buffalo circling the drain already.
