He said job #1 was fixing that but two of the perps in the playoff game are no longer on the team. The two that had the most glaring penalties. One led the league so his leaving is a gift to the HC and OLC.

I am not sure just how he was going to fix that but it seems the football gods have interceded on his behalf and given him some breathing room.

McCarthy is going into one of the strangest years any HC has gone since Harbaugh did in a contract year and won a ring and Reid was given the parameters to keeping his job by Lurie and failed to accomplish that.

But neither of those HC's had the buddy of the owner sitting by and rumored to be taking over should they stumble. McCarthy works for an owner that has already proven he will make a change in mid season.

I think as Mccarthy has rewatched that Niners game and witnessed the play of Gregory and Williams, he has to be relieved that they are gone and his #1 problem is getting some pre-resolution. Because you can bet there would have been a media watch on the penalties and an over/under established on job security.

I think Mike McCarthy just went into a room by himself and fist pumped. They will need a LG and DE but not those two and that has to be a relief.

Time to install some discipline whether Booger likes it or not.

What did Gregory have, six sacks? 5 years 70 million for someone who averages that? No thank you. Thank God Denver took him off our hands. Remember they gave Kavika Pittman a similar contract. He was a solid player but they paid probably triple what they should have. I'm pretty sure they also signed Ebenezer Ekuban. They just love our crap defensive ends.

We won’t know if the penalty problem has been resolved until next season. Moving on from Connor Williams should help. Strength was always an issue for him which caused him to have to grab a lot. A lot of the penalties can be attributed to being an undisciplined team.

Anxious to see if Williams continues getting flagged as much as he here

Good thread topic. Some players are more prone to others. Shall I say, RKG?

Looks good on the face . We’ll see how their replacements fare. And if anyone else picks up the slack.

Offensive holding is usually the result of a player continuing to be beat and he holds as last gasp effort to protect.

Let’s assume he doesn’t make those holds does that mean Dak gets clobbered more or turns it over more?
Just saying …

I think Ekuban had a pretty good career after he left us.

?? How could anyone know the answer to that question? Has training camp started and I don't know it?

Williams wasn’t coming back. We could draft a Guard in the 4th and would be as good.. Gregory was signed and someone changed some wording over night and he signed a bigger contract. I will say that I appreciate Gregory agreeing to pay JJ back for sticking by him. But who changed the wording. Did JJ tell someone to do it or did his son try it. Did JJ know about it.

Besides just those 2 it seemed our OL had more penalties than ever. as in each individual had career high's in penalties, maybe that isn't the case but that is how it seemed to me. The change in OL scheme seemed to have them all incurring more penalties, williams most of all. whatever they are teaching they need to do a better job.

The problem is the refs over correcting in not wanting to seem biased in favor of the most popular, most televised team in the sport.
