Is there any credible evidence beyond fans speculation Jethro hasn't been involved in offseason?

I mainly follow local coverage of Cowboys so may have missed an official announcement or Jethro conceding he’s hasn’t been involved in bringing in new talent in FA and draft on defense.

Keep hearing claims that the better decisions and acquisitions this offseason must mean he isn’t as involved. I’ve been traveling quite a bit this year so maybe I missed some coverage or admissions from Jethro as such.

I must remind fans we have built some other playoff teams this era with Jethro and as recent as with McCarthy had a 5th ranked defense. So it really isn’t that much of a stretch he was involved again.

As long as he is GM, he still gets credit. Same reason he’s been blamed this era. I’ve been a huge critic and I’d lead the parade if he was stepping back.

3)Safety. Now i'm willing to say Downs might've been a Jerry pick. Regarded as one of the best players in the draft and played safety? Easy sell to Jerry. However, after paying Jalen THompson there seemed to have been a emphasis on improving the safety position. A position in years past they've used 3rd rounders on guys like JJ WIlcox or signed Jayron Kearse and been ok with that.


4) Hiring Christian Parker. I have seen nothing in history to suggest this is a Jerry hire. I don't even know if Jerry even knew who he was. A 31 year old who's never called a defense and has no ties to Jerry or the Cowboys. Jerry has hired EBerflus and Zimmer....Parker is nothing like those hires.


5) Quiet offseason. Every offseason we hear about the Cowboys whether its contract negotiations or whatever. Nothing this year. Its been refreshing to watch teams like the Eagles and San Fran dominate headlines for stupidity. That was us in years past.

Jerry is still here. Jerry is still making decisions. But I suspect he's listening to a different voice then he has in years past and the only guy I can really point to is Shotty. Not to say he's doing it alone but someone has garnered his trust and the Shotty hire is the only thing I can really point to.

Jerry always gets a boost when a good defensive coach comes to town. From Jerry Jones to Will McClay, we can't build a defense worth a flip. Takes someone else to bring in the shopping list.

And seems like Stephen is always next to them. BTW. Was close to Parcells, and wasn't he rumored to be the one who wanted Quinn to replace McCarthy?

He’s not just the GM but President and owner. I’d assume no decision is made without him from “socks to jocks.”. Those were his words not mine.

You aren’t going to get anything concrete until years down the road.

For instance I hear guys now speak on McCarthy. According to Bobby Belt the issue they had was McCarthy didn’t want to do more than he had to. He didn’t want to take part in shopping for the groceries he just wanted to cook. Cowboys wanted someone who was more hands on. So if that’s true then that’s how Shottu got the job. He is more hands on. We know he wanted Klayton Adam’s. We know he hired the majority of these guys and had Eberflus forced on him. Who was the worst coach for them? Eberflus. Year later they get Christian Parker who is similar to hiring Adam’s.

I think you’re looking for a written statement but I don’t think you’re going to get it.

Just because Quinn had good defenses doesn’t mean it was the right hire. Because when Packers scored 50 points on us that was Quinn as the DC. Sometimes it’s not who you hire but how and why you do it. And Parker seems to represent what they want to be and become. Guys like Mike and Quinn don’t despite their regular season success.

And that’s the thing. We just have to use common sense. I’m 99 percent sure Downs was a collective decision from Shotty to Jerry. I don’t anyone was in the room and said a different name.

The Christian Parker hire. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Jerry had no idea who he even was.

Jalen Thompson, Durant, Locke….Jerry has no idea. These seem to be Parker influenced….

I suspect McClay, Parker, Stephen and Shotty collectively come to agreement on certain players. I’m sure the Milton conversation was an interesting one but we know Howell is a guy Shotty apparently loves and he’s here.

It feels good to be one of those teams with the young coaches. Jerry usually goes for a 72-year-old at defensive coordinator and the oldest living legend he can find for Head Coach. I have no idea if it will make a difference but the vibe definitely feels different.

It may be recent bias but there seems to be more willingness to move on from underperforming or poor scheme fit players than in the past

Can’t be much beyond speculation, we aren’t there, but if Jerry manipulated the media to be immune from certain criticism, surely he is going to have his own house in order to still claim credit should things go well.

Even if he was once good at being a GM, he is 83 years old. I’m sure he is involved in major decisions but I doubt he is the genesis of much of it.

At some point one of the people in his ear is bound to be right, no? But that’s what it is for now. If you listen closely, he thinks he has 2-3 years left, and when it’s time to replace Dak, it likely won’t happen immediately. So, I’d call it slightly more aggressive than usual.

I am so tired of this nonsense. Every time they have a press conference you see who is in charge. Every time they show war room video you see who is in charge. Stephen can't burp until his daddy nods his approval.
