Im not from anywhere near Texas so just curious what the atmosphere is like. I know it’s only week 1, so I don’t expect the world to be falling but I think there is enough carry over from last year for there to be serious concern.

Does the media ask tough questions?
Are the headlines in papers scathing?
Yesterday wasn’t a home game obviously, but will fans boo loudly at home games?
Will attendance ever be an issue?
Will merchandise sales ever be affected?

I’m from the North East so pretty much all aspects of life are different than in Texas, but I definitely feel like the sports fans/atmosphere are much different (for better or worse depending on how you look at it). The fans in NY/Philly/Boston would be losing their minds if their team lost like that after a pathetic year last year, and I really don’t think Jerry would be able to get away with the things he has in those places. He would be embarrassed and financially forced to makes changes, and I’m not sure this will ever happen in Texas. I feel like the status quo of not winning is kind of just accepted.

Curious to see opinions on this

No outrage yet I imagine, just frustration that we waited all off-season for more of the same from the second half of the 2017 season. The best thing they can do is review the tape today, then trash it and prepare for the G-Strings Sunday night.

No just like a whatever feeling around. Most local fans just go to the game as a night out with low expectations. That’s why you don’t hear loud cheering at att stadium. It’s the traveling fans from out of state that ruin it for everyone. Because as long as they pay top $ the joneses won’t make changes.

Probably moreso ten or fifteen years ago. At this point, hardcore fans are somewhat numb to it, and the less intense fans have fallen away.
Exactly right. There's starting to be some muted form of disgust, but it's almost as if people mostly accept underachievement now where it used to be considered unacceptable. I guess that's what happens as you get farther away from your winning years.

To answer the OP, IMO the local media are and have been incredibly soft on this regime. There are far fewer critical voices now that most of the old guard media like Galloway have retired, and Hansen cares more about his social issues. I've heard Tim Cowlishaw be pretty critical, but that's about it. Most of the newer guys almost seem part of the Jerry Machine, happy to get their comfortable quotes at PCs and smile back at Garrett's inane "How Ya Doin' Guys" without complaint.

I’ve noticed less statewide media coverage. Twenty years ago, Cowboys coverage in the Austin paper rivaled Longhorn coverage. Nowadays, theres maybe a couple snippets about the Cowboys.

No outrage from Stephen. Just more thick-headed optimism.

lol.. I listened to the interview. He sounded so defeated and he's just using the same old company lines he always has to use for this crap coach.

Just the sound in his voice has me convinced that he isn't convinced of his choice to keep old red and Linehan another year.

I live in south Fort Worth. No outrage here, everyone expects exactly what happened. This is the Garrett era after all, so it wasn't the least bit surprising.

Here in Austin, U of Texas gets most of the football burn. And there’s probably more local Houston Texans fans than Cowboys fans.

Unless the Cowboys are really good or really bad, there’s not a whole lot of buzz.

Every single radio show host is upset. I was listening to the ticket, 103.3 and 105.3'on the way to Prosper for a meeting and they were all annoyed.

But I screaming back at them. I told you so. On 105.3 one of the guys said what you saw from Dak yesterday is what we saw everyday at training camp.

If that's so, why not write any articles stating so. I know that in the past writers have stated that Dak was a bad practice qb but all the fluff pieces from training camp were annoying

Here it’s like anyplace else Cowboy fans call home: the gamut of emotions are in play, ranging from outrage to optimism. You know, same as always.

Local print and radio are taking runs at the club, and rightly so. It’s nothing at all like the bath they’d take in some northeastern markets, but being that the Cows are THE focus here, they’re scrutinized plenty.

As for life at the stadium/stajum, the crowd won’t begin to make life hard enough to matter. One, the club isn’t as concerned because seats are bought and paid for; ticket buyers committed long ago.

Now would attendance matter to the Joneses if it declines sharply? Perhaps, but on most Sundays those seats end up being filled by Giants or Eagles fans.

Cowboy merch will always fly off the shelf. That revenue stream is not only sustainable, but pretty much a guaranteed money printer until the end of time. It is what it is. God bless ‘em.

I guess that’s the unsettling thing for many of us. There would never be any hope for some sort of fan walkout (even if you could somehow organize one), because this won’t compel these people to change.

There notion that the Joneses might be dissatisfied, that the struggle with this perpetual state of process is somehow unsettling for them. I believe they are experiencing a realization of the dream Jerry envisioned when he tried to buy the Chargers in the 60s, and then again when he took control of this team in ‘89.

Things couldn’t be better! This is The Brand. The Stadium. The Star. Topping the Forbes list. Thanksgiving halftime show. Partnerships galore, now to include WinStar. I mean, we have this football thing, too, and it’s cool and all. Not losing sleep over it. Life is good.

Stephen is saving upwards of $20million on the cap this year. That’s all he cares about

Dallas just announced a billion dollar investment into the training facility and signed Martin to the largest contract ever given to an OG. THe franchise is worth five billiion dollars, 20 Million is a fraction of what they make selling ball caps.

Galloway coined it years ago, "Overreaction Monday" for all of the Cowboys fans because there are some that believe the Cowboys should win every game. The local sports talk shows rely on that to feed the calls and make their jobs easier.

It got old pretty quickly because it was always the same tired crap just as it is now. Fire Garrett! Booger must step down!

The fact is the oddsmakers made this game a tossup, so what's to moan about losing an away game against a playoff team with a stellar D?

OP, just look at these boards for the same thing you would hear in DFW.

The funniest part of this, and it was the same as it was on the old DC.com board, is the ones that were the most down and pessimistic about the season and team seem to be the most pissed. I don't get that, just be happy you were right all along.

Has more to do with being sick of Garrett, Linehan and Garrett bumbling it time and again, takes more than 1 game for me to really have a reaction.
