that maybe we just aren't talking about. I think that this team should look at what's going on and use it to up their own individual play. We see an injury to Williams which leads to the emergence of Austin and more importantly another Romo Go To Guy and HUGE target. The timing, communication, trust and chemistry is there. They just simply click! (I see Austin as a second safety blanket ala Witten for Romo). Had the Williams injury not happened, we may have let Austin go and eventually rue the day. Colombo goes down and Doug Free has put together some solid and consistent performances that makes it a little tempting to want to push Flozell in light of his consistent inconsistencies and "shoot ourselves in the foot" mistakes out the door. Martellus is out for a while and we have seen John Phillips quietly make possession sustaining catches, a few TDs and some great blocking (Basically the plays I wanted to see out of Martellus) and he has done this in a short amount of playing time. Our backups and "not quite stars" and helping this team and making plays. They are growing before our eyes. Had it not been for some of these guys I believe we wouldn't be in the playoff push that we are now currently in. No one should feel complacent and safe. Wade should stress this. Everyone must work, must improve, must go above and beyond EVERY week in order to get this team to number 6. And if you don't, we are going to bring in guys that will. Just my random 6 am thoughts.

Good stuff. I think Alan Ball slips in there too.
I also think challenging Crayton brought out his best as well.

my BIGGEST issue is not so much these backups should REPLACE the starters...but that the starters should be given ample rest during games throughout the season so they can be fresh for the stretch run. More than anything....the NFL season is a war of attrition. You saw how GREAT DeMarcus Ware looked after a week of light work and a game where he actually got a breather. That has ALWAYS been my biggest issue with Garrett and Wade. They don't spell guys in games. When it is obvious that a blow throught the game will keep them fresh for the 4th quarter. They MUST figure out how to steal time for guys DURING games. The next guy who needs a blow is Witten. Find a way to get him a blow so that if and when we make the playoffs...he can be as close to 100% as possible.

I think this is also a testament to how good our scouting has been to find players that can step in and contribute that were not stars coming out of college.

I know this is blasphemy on this board, but Jerry is actually doing a pretty good job being GM lately. The reason I say this is because the job of the GM is to aquire talent, plain and simple, and the talent we have been aquiring is contrubuting to the success of the team.

Cue all the Jerry haters to come out of the woodwork and explain how Jerry the GM had nothing to do with aquiring any of our diamonds in the rough, like Ogletree (who was not even drafted by any team this year). :D

fan31, good observations. John Phillips has actually contributed a little each week, and it was nice to see him break out against New Orleans. Ogletree has also quietly contributed, enough that fans (at least on this board) are clamoring to see more of him.
