I put some furniture on sale on craigslist and received this email. Sounds like a scam from the get go. Typically my luck!!

"I really need this your items i dont know if you can do this for me,i just got the new apartment, which i think this set will be ok for me and i love to make an instant purchachase, which i love to come take a look myself but presently am in the uk.i don't mind adding an extra $50 for you to take the advert down from the web site so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the items.I will also like you to know that i will be paying via a check, and it will
be overnight payment due to the distance .You don't need to bother your self with the shipment ,i will take care of that.So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
3.Your phone #.
**Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check**
Have a nice day

Yes, it is.

First, I doubt that anyone who writes that bad can write a check.

Second, that must be some pretty special furniture you have for him to ship it all the way to the UK.

Sounds fishy to me.

yea, the writing and grammar errors were my first clue. I first thought it was someone from Florida in the UK but realized nobody from Florida writes that bad unless they are graduates from Miami. And like you said Cajun, why would someone ship furniture (and he never refers to it as furniture but as items) from Florida to the UK>

Big scam that would involve a stolen cashiers check. It would clear initially, then when the bank caught up with it they would remove the funds from your account and you'd be out the money and the items.

I've got a banker in the Congo promising me $5 million. Perhaps we should get those two in contact with each other.

Thats all you got? He is sending me $12M. I guess I'm just better than you! :laugh2:

Sounds legit. You should probably include your social security number too.

Naw, the $5 mil was the 'front' money. There was an extra $10 Mil once I sent him the $6000 to cover costs. It's just too bad I couldn't get that $6000 together. I'd be a rich man now.

I can top that. I'm getting 25 million and it's from Nigerian royalty!

The $12M was a down payment. The rest comes as 120 square miles of Saudi Arabian oil fields. :laugh2:

If you have to ask, "Is this a scam?" then the answer is almost always YES, IT IS.

how much are you trying to sell it for?

I really don't see the angle in this one

you're not giving out any CC or SS information, yes, he wants you to cash a check for him, but you will get the money, and he gives you an additional 50 bucks in the process, you don't give him any money

if it is a scam, this guy is undoubtedly going the long and stupid route

See my post above. The check they provide is a real check, but stolen. It takes a few days for the banks to track it back, but when they do, they will take the money back from your account.

there's nothing in it for the scammer though, the money goes back to the real owner, not him

He has the "purchased" item, which he can then sell or use.
