Is this a good gameplan?

1. Max protect more often than not

2. Screen passes when heavy pressure

3. With #1 in play, make WR's Earn their pay - get open and catch it

Too simplistic, unrealistic ?

That's a very good offensive game plan IMO, but it won't matter if the defense fails to show up.

Our O-line isn't incapable of giving Romo time. It's the breakdowns that seem to happen once every 3 or 4 downs that kills us. Screens I like; but in my opinion we shouldn't be max protecting every time Romo drops back to pass. We need to chip Pierre Paul every down; much like teams do with DeMarcus against us. Leaving Doug Free on JPP 1 on 1 like the last time we played will get us killed.

Its easier said than done, but we need to gain positive yards on 1st and 2nd down because Romo can convert 3rd and manageable. No trying to do too much on first down and risk gaining nothing; leaving Garret to call the evident draw on 2nd and 10 that amounts to nothing. We can't keep trying to convert from 3rd and 8 or longer...

(no need to bring up no penalties/turnovers...that's a given)

we scored 34 points last game vs the giants..why go into a shell?

come up w something that helps win us the game..specifically defensively

I was thinking the same thing save for one thought......DEZ BRYANT!

Can we manage to create a few situations/opportunities for this kid to get 30-50 yards downfield with only one defender around him?

Now the Giants defense is mediocre. So we should have success taking what Romo sees.

But I'm tired of two things:
1) Other teams chucking it 40-50 yards downfield against us on 3rd and long in desperation and all too often succeeding.

2) Us not doing the same in the same situation and using Dez to make something happen in that spot.

The Giants are 29th in total defense and gave up 450 yards and 34 points the last time we played, our offense is going to score. This ALL comes down to the defense. The way they have been playing, we could score 30 and still lose by several scores. New York putting up 40+ would not surprise me at all.

Probably an idiot for feeling this, but I'm not worried about the defense. At least not nearly as much as most and not in this match up.

I liked what I saw against TB and even a good bit of what I saw against the eagles.

Now I know the end result in the eagles game wasn't good enough. But I liked a lot of the pieces........

The plan seemed sounder and the effort was stronger. They gained their yards and put up 2 TD's in the 1st half and that's a poor end result.

But it wasn't easy for them. We defended the run much better. They needed a fortunate free play chuck it up for grabs on 3rd and long on the 1st TD drive. And we got our hits on Vic.

I have no doubt had Romo not injured his hand, that entire 1st half would've played out much better in our favor and the "story" of this game would have been how much better the defense played.

As it turned out, we get no offense from McGee and the 2-3 1st half stops we forced get no recognition.

What has me the most optimistic is how well Ratliff and Ware played when none of us knew how limiting their injuries might be.

We need them to play to their All-Pro pedigre Sunday Night and impact the game. I like our chances to stop the run and get after Eli.

Now will the Giants get WRs open and make plays in the passing game? Absolutely.

We just need to limit the damage and make our own fair share of negative plays against their offense. I believe we will.

CS has said in the past that Romo is ultra cautious throwing deep when there is a safety back there. He started doing it a bit more this year.

I think the Giants usually have a safety deep on both sides of the field so it is hard to go deep against them. You have to attack them over the middle with Miles and Dez. We also need to run more screens to RBs against the rush and TE slip screens against the blitz.

The most important thing is getting Felix going. We need to run outside at their LBs. Having MartyB available for this game will make a big difference. I've never seen a player who is playing so well get maligned so much. He is a great blocker and a decent short receiver. He will never be a big downfield threat.

I think you're overstating it a bit. We've only allwed 3 teams to score 30 plus and that includes the Detroit game with 14 on two defensive scores.
And the Giants have only scored 30 or more 3 times.

I just think we're a better football team. Not much better and certainly not SB ready. But at least we've managed to outscore our 1st 15 opponents by a combined 39 points. The Giants have actually been outscored by 23.

The best offensive game plan would be to let Romo run it. Give him complete control to call the plays like it's the two minute offensive.

Is this the Stephen McGee game plan?

If Romo is healthy push the pedal to the floor. It's go time.

The weather forecast is calling for a cold, windy game (19 mph wind gusts). I think the weather will hold the score down and could be an equalizer for the Dallas defense. Running the football and tackling short pass will be critical. I think the Giants had much rather play this game in Dallas. The Giants have the 32nd ranked rush offense and 22nd ranked run defense.

If Felix Jones rushes 20 times, Dallas should win this game.

The Cowboys need to get the ball to Dez Bryant more than 1 time in this football game, too. In fact, Bryant needs the football much more, imo.

Dallas' offensive line must play good and get it done. That includes the new LG. TE or F-back blocking...ect...

Dallas just shut down LeSean McCoy (2.7 YPC), so I'm optimistic that they can get some revenge on the Tip Toe Burglar/Front-Runner and Ahmad Bradshaw.

Whatever the game plan is , it better include not letting JPP beat us this time around.

Where are you seeing this? I found a forecast with little chance of rain, mild wind and temps like 35-43. It looked good to me for North Jersey in January and not likely to impact the game.

BTW I'm curious about something. I know their old stadium was a real wind tunnel. Is that the case with the new one? It is just accross the street from the old one, but perhaps they factored that into the plans.

Bring him back in the future as offensive coordinator. :D

If we were playing McGee at QB, I'd use your plan, but not with Romo.
I believe you spread them out with lots of receivers, run the ball and let Romo read it and pick them apart. With our OL, the more you pack it in, the more defenders you pull into the box and the harder it is for Felix to find running room...max protect in passing situations and the fewer guys they need in coverage, which means more delayed blitzers.

It's actually the opposite of what you'd think...superior lines can go two TEs and smash it on you...superior OLs can keep guys in to block and pick up every blitz and give the QB all day...Not us.

Weaker the OL, the more you should spread em out and get them in nickel and dime personel for players like Felix and Romo.

Screen can be great problem Giants do not blitz much. Screens are not that hard to defend. Yes if LB age coming or a safey blitz but when sniffed out the QB has no where to go with the ball. Throwing screens I'm for it now and then but screen and swing pass got us nothing last week enough with all the screen talk.

Excellent post! I was about to start a thread about how this could shape up to be a very different game than the one a few weeks ago. I don't see a scoring fest. I see something more like 24-20 or even 20-17. We have the "potential" to run the ball well on NY. NY may run a bit on us, but I have a little more faith in our run D than theirs. The OL, Fiammetta, and Felix must be at the top of their game to put Romo in favorable situations because it will be tough to pass at will there. We have to avoid 3rd and long and take advantage of our WRs ability to run after the catch with quick passes. Miles and Dez can go all the way on short to medium range passes. I hope Lee is close to 100% because I can see screens killing us (which has happened quite a bit this year) if Lee is not healthy. If we can actually win the turnover battle, not have tons of penalties, and play well on special teams, we have a very good chance. Unfortunately, this team rarely puts it all together in one game. I could see Dez having an impact on special teams and offense. He has played well against this team and has as much big play potential as anyone when he gets going. As a Cowboys fan in NJ, I don't know if I have ever been as desperate for a win. It has been hell here since '07 (except for a brief moment in '09). To shut Jacobs and these obnoxious fans up until next year would be priceless.
