Is this a solid TV?

I had a Vizio once and took it back in two weeks as the back-lighting was very uneven and came mostly from the top right and was very noticeable during black shots...

That being said, they have improved a lot over the last few years...

I'm partial to Sharp (they've been doing LCD TV longer than anyone by a mile) and Panasonic...

There are other good brands out there as well, just like those two the best. Samsung is nice and they also make 80% of Sony innards...

I would recommend getting a matte/flat screen finish. Those shiny ones will run you nuts if any reflecting light is present...

I'm not a huge Vizio fan, but it does have a 120Mhz refresh rate. For games that require lots of screen refreshes (like FPS) the refresh rate is good.

I would go take a first hand look at the picture before I purchased it.

Personally, I like Samsung (all I buy really) Though Sharp and even some Sony's are nice. Bang for the buck, I think Samsung owns though.

do you need it now or wait until Black Friday to see more deals on TVs?

Ummm.. I could wait until black friday actually.

I'd like to get a 36 inch TV though.

I feel like Vizio has gotten better over the years though.

I like LG's too.

I want an LED TV though.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the opinions.

This TV looks solid and goes for 850 normally and at Sams I can get it for 600.

I haven't seen it in person yet but I really like the specs.

Im just really hesitant right now because I went cheap on my last TV (A Phillips) and although it is good for watching HD TV it has a blurry lag on video games.

I've always thought of Vizio as a cheap brand but they have some high ranking TV's.

This is probably due to both picture quality of the TV itself and the fact that your other TV probably has a 60mhz refresh rate. For video games, 120mhz should be where you start.

Watching normal TV, for the most part 60mhz can be enough. Lots of TV data input doesn't come in faster than that anyhow, but dealing with HD games it can and does.

Yeah you're right. It does.

Do you think I will be happy with the vizio TV to play games on?

Is there anything comparable in the 600-750 dollar range that you are aware of?

For $80 ($679) more you can get a 40" Samsung at 120Mhz here. Though it's special order.

If you are willing to spend the extra $80, I would at least call and inquire about it. Samsung makes some really nice TVs and as I said. Bang for the buck, they can't be touched.

EDIT: Looks like Bestbuy has it too at the same price. (I would get it from Bestbuy first)

What about this one for the same money?

Not that I'm an expert, but I personally would be a little wary of Vizio. Like you, I had a Phillips and it went dead on me. Since then, I've decided to only stay with the higher-end brands. (And maybe Hitachi isn't a great TV, either, but it looks really good at the store.)

Edit... Crud, nevermind, that's online only. But at our Sams, they've had a Hitachi 40" that was like 448. Not sure if it was 120 mhz, though.

Also, at the Sams near me they've had an LG 42" 120 mhz that was the same price or even $550, IIRC.

I'd check Best Buy for sales, too. They rotate what's on sale every week or two, but they have some great deals, usually better than Sams.

Just for the record, my Sony giant projection went out a few years back and Best Buy eventually replaced it with a Panasonic plasma. When the repair guys came out initially to pick up my Sony I asked them the best, most reliable flat panel. They said Pioneer was far and away the best (not made any more) they said Sony, Samsung, Sharp, LG and a few others were good as well...

The one thing they did tell me was that they have to repair more Philips units than all other units COMBINED... just food for thought...

I've been impressed with my 50" Panasonic plasma TV.

Don't only look at the refresh rate of the monitor/tv. That itself won't eliminate ghosting, you need to be aware of the response times, too. The lower, the better. By the way NYC, you silly, it's Hz, not Mhz. 60 is perfectly acceptable for gaming. Only the hardcore professionals chomp at the bit for 120hz monitors and they usually go way up in price when they're 120hz.

EDIT: Just looked at the TV, you should be fine.

Thank you all. a lot of good advice in here.

The vizio is still in the lead for me right now.

It's for a bedroom and I think 40 inches is just too big so im looking for a 36 inch TV.

I'm looking to get a new one 42" after income tax at the first of the year and i'm looking at Vizio and Samsung. So I think either of those brands are pretty solid.

Another vote for plasma. I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma (TC-P42S30). My nephew loves playing his xbox 360 games on it when he comes over. Nice vivid colors, extremely fast refresh rate, etc.. If I had it to do all over again though, I probably would have bought the 50" model.
