Is this all a massive overreaction?

If Tony Romo doesn't go down for 4 weeks (+ our all of our other injuries), are we even having any conversations of drastic changes needed. Romo would have given 1-2 more wins easily. The Eagles game would not have been a must win, and we make the playoffs....

Of course it is. We fire two of the most criticized coaches on the staff and all of a sudden Jerry's an idiot and the situation is a mess.

You can't win on sports message boards. Look at Giants fans, they're one year removed from winning the Super Bowl and #1 seed in the conference and their message boards are awash with fire everyone and get rid of Eli.

I'm not so sure. Romo has had a hand in singlehandedly throwing away games himself. I hope Romo has all the success inthe world here, but I'm officially off the "Romo is the savior" bandwagon. That guy hurt the team as much as helped themthis year. I can point to exactly when this started to happen. When he decided he wanted to stop being Tony Romo and start being Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. He said he watched a lot of film on Brady and tried to emulate his pocket presence. What resulted was a QB that stopped using his athleticism to extend plays and started staring down a rush as he subsequently threw an INT. Get back to being Tony Romo and learn to throw the ball away once in a while. He does that and he'll get a lot better.

Yes it is/was, but if Garrett cuts and runs then making a change with Wade is our best option. Several coaches will follow Garrett.

I wasn't crazy about Wade as HC but in 2006 we had little choice. Now in 2009 we have many choices, primarily Shanahan. So lets shake the tree since half the fruit has bailed.

If by drastic changes you mean firing the head coach, no. The team was already starting to struggle on offense before Romo's injury, and the goal was never to just make the playoffs. Even if they had made it, there was no indication they would have advanced.

Ok, but the team going down the toilet early woke up the Cowboys and they played better in the middle of the season. Besides, they played like crap in the Arizona game with Romo. And the Bengels game? Now that time passes by many forget how poorly the offense was early in the season.

I also think the excuses are a cop out. So if Romo gets hurt again next season we are done? A good team overcomes it, if you know football find the examples of this. And Garrett wasn’t good because of excuse A, B or C? You kidding me? How many coordinators would have loved to have the talent we had! Excuses and more excuses, the joy of the offseason.

Of course it's all a massive overreaction. People act like we're coming off of three 5-11 seasons and Jerry is choosing Rich Kotite to right the ship. It's ridiculous.

Everyone wanted Bruce Read fired, and it was done. Most people wanted Stewart gone, and he is. All this handwringing is purely over Jason Garrett, who hasn't proven anything in this league.

This team has gone 13-3 and 9-7 the last two years. This isn't some hopeless situation here, no matter how much some people seemingly want it to be.

That St. Louis game I don't care who the QB was. They laid us out and we were totally shell shocked someone wanted to play us. Don't forget we scored on the first drive of the game there and looked smooth doing it.

Now getting another win to get us in the playoffs was definitely more probable but this team finally learned to play defense when Romo was out. Most importantly, the way we played on week 17 we were not ready to win a playoff game and it would be business as usual.

We were supposed to go in there and show everyone we were the Dallas Cowboys remember? We were lost. LOST with our playoff hopes on the line and controlling our own destiny after getting 2 gifts to lead our hunt the 2 weeks prior.

When you look LOST like we did in Philly and breakdown in the 4th quarter the week before during your historical stadiums closing there is no such thing as an over reaction. The brass of this team has under reacted until this week really. There still needs action and change. This is not a focused football team and the current HC is not capable of changing that with him being the primary leader in that locker room.

He is not capable of winning a play off game in that capacity either. His current and past track record of 0-4 throughout many other coaching stints in different decades factually proves that. Not over reacting at all. Stewart and Read were long overdue and justifiably could have been let go 8 weeks into the season. Garrett couldn't utilize our talent and keep this offense ticking for more than 6 weeks even when Romo came back. He gets to be a HC though.

This team never played equally effective on both sides of the ball in any game this season. That tells me there was never any continuity between coaching and players. Too many excuses and this teams presence is to big in the media for a cupcake to oversee it. What a disgrace the last years camps and weekly practices have been.

It's not hopeless but will get worse if cupcake remains the primary coach and supposed leader of this team.

I feel there is a huge amount of hope and a lot of improvement will now be made after hearing last nights news. Things are starting to really go good now. Nothing but good news I've seen from this week. Jerry can keep continuity on the defense which will continue to improve by getting Wade to be DC. Don't say impossible because it is more likely than not.

A lot of truth here, but you have to consider 2 things.

1) Our goal was the SB. The majority of qualified talent evaluators would agree we have the best roster.

2) Considering our talent and injuries, we still under achieved. Every team evaluates where they are at their season's end. Doesn't matter if it ends in Dec, Jan or Feb.
That's all the Cowboys are doing now.

Who did the worst job and cost us the most? DeHaven, Stewart.
Who's gone?

At least the Cowboys aren't overreacting.

This may all be true, but the fact that the Eagle's game was a must-win that we had to have to make the playoffs proves a lot, especially considering we were absolutely destroyed when we needed to come up big. That says a lot.

Agreed, they completely demolished us in a must win situation. Had we lost by 3 or 7 is one thing but by being demolished by 30+ is a disgrace. That loss said a lot about the character of the team

That took the wind out of everyone's sail. The NFL has become a tricky place. But one thing hasn't changed. Well, a few. Tackling and blocking. Protecting the ball.

You still have to explain last year...........home field throughout and can't win a playoff game.

And DON'T DISMISS THAT EITHER as "yesterdays" news. You HAVE to include the debacle that started last December as part of this story line. It's a consistent thread that runs through this team, along with the other obvious problems that are discussed on this forum.

Secondly, a hallmark of championship teams is the ability to overcome. Injuries, squabbles, locker room rivalries, whatever...........every teams got something or other going on. No one wins a SB without overcoming obstacles and difficulties, as it's impossible to go six months without a few things not exactly going perfectly.

What happened this year is not a matter of Romo's injury. It contributed for sure, but in the long run it was a "blip" that's not uncommon in pro football.

Jerry needs to go on vacation every July-February. The tragic Phillips/Garrett experiment is toast. We need real, proven, hard-nosed coaching. And we need to learn how to "finish". Both finishing plays and finishing games..............and that comes with coaching.

Finally, HOW DARE this team NOT be prepared for a possible injury at QB?!?!? THAT'S part of the GM/Coaching problem as well. They should've known full well of Johnson's abilities and how far he's gone down hill. That's why they have training camps and pre-season games! So even there, it's still "on us", and not some "freak" woulda-shoulda-coulda thing about Romo getting hurt. This team, who is supposed to be one of the "elite" franchise's in the NFL, was completely unprepared for an injury at QB...................unbelievable!!
