Is this the first time it has ever happened?

That a QB had a game rating of 140+ and threw for 300+ yards...and lost the game.

I've spent about half an hour looking through the game logs of all the "name" quarterbacks at profootballreference.com, and can't find a game like that anywhere.

It's the first time it has happened since at least 1959, and possibly ever. PFR's database goes back only to 1960, and it had never happened since then.

In other words, Romo had the best game by a losing quarterback in more than 50 years.

I think that questions go to the defensive side of the ball, instead.

:bang2:

On 31 other teams in the league, Romo's day results in a blowout win. For us, it's an history loss.

Wow, just immagine if Romo had Brady's team, or Rodgers' team or Brees' team? Just WOW!

Well, the cutoffs are a little arbitrary - there is some competition for that title:

Five guys have thrown for 280+ with better ratings and lost, led by Lynn Dickey with 290 yards and a 152 rating. Bert Jones threw for 357 with a 137 rating and lost. Eli Manning threw for 391 with a 130.5 and lost. Aaron Rodgers threw for 423 with a 121.4 rating in that crazy 51-45 playoff game against Kurt Warner (154.1) and the Cardinals.

This is funny: The second-best passer rating for a QB with 300 yards & 4 TD in a losing effort belongs to...Brady Quinn.

NO!

Haven't you read the haters? It's Romo's fault. Had he throw three more TD passes instead of allowing himself to be sacked, we would have won.

/off

Nobody who has had a higher rating in a losing effort had as many yards or touchdown passes as Romo, and none of their teams scored as many points. Guys with lower ratings typically threw interceptions and/or had fewer touchdown passes. Rodgers had a 121.4 rating in the playoff game, for example, because he threw an interception that set up the Cardinals' first TD (not to mention fumbling in OT to lose the game). He also threw the ball 10 more times than Romo and averaged fewer yards per pass.

Romo also is the first one since at least 1959 to throw at least four TD passes, no interceptions, average more than 10.0 yards per pass and complete at least 50 percent of his passes but still lose the game.

Adam, in your honest perspective, do you really put much stock in the QB rating?

Romo was lights out granted, but Eli had a 90.7 rating and I don't think he was 50pts (2/3rds) the QB performance Romo was.

NY sports talk has been saying all day how Eli is heads and tails better than Romo. Even last night the national announcers were saying Eli is having an MVP year, if it wasn't for Rogers he would get it. Yet Romo's numbers were much better, including his wins and loss record before the game ended.

Used to piss me off, now I just chuckle.

Their have been times.......losses where a post/thread like this would offer me some comfort.

This is not one of those times.

I've said many times that there are flaws to the passer rating formula. Romo had a great game by any measure -- completion percentage, yards per pass, TD passes, no interceptions, etc.

Eli completed less than 60 percent of his passes, averaged fewer yards per pass and had one intercepted (and an easy interception dropped). He was still below 50 percent completions until late in the third quarter. Until the last two drives, he simply wasn't having a great game.

Or, with our defense, we would have lost by 30 points.
