Executives from several NFL clubs expressed extreme disappointment and anger at a TMZ video that appears to show the league's head of officiating, Dean Blandino, out for a night of partying in Los Angeles with Cowboys EVP and son of owner Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones.

Blandino appears to be among a group of males and females captured stepping off the Jones' Cowboys-themed party bus and toward a club where paparazzi awaited outside. The Cowboys hold training camp in temperate Oxnard, Calif., and it is not unusual for team officials to take the bus to LA for dinner, etc.

The reactions to the video by officials of several teams -- none of whom I spoke to are a natural rival of the Cowboys or had any personal issues with Jones or Blandino -- as well as former high-ranking team officials, were quite visceral. Several expressed concern at the appearance of potential competitive balance issues, given the sensitive nature of Blandino's role and his authority on matters of officiating and interpretation.

"That's definitely Dean," said an official with one club upon viewing the video, in which a man looking very much like Blandino, in jeans and a blue t-shirt, steps off the bus along with Stephen Jones, son of Jerry Jones, who serves as the Cowboys COO, EVP and director of player personnel, and who is a member of the highly influential competition committee. "Is the league trying to tell you it's not him? What is the league telling you guys about it? That looks horrible. I can't think of another owner in the league who wouldn't be pissed off after seeing that."

Well, frankly the league is saying nothing.

At least the Jones' haven't been caught with bags of thousands of dollars or rolled up bills in the bathroom. Yet.

Hookers and blow man, hookers and blow.
Kind of like PB&J, chocolate and peanut butter, grits and shrimp. They just go together.

On a roadtrip, while playing at the US Air Force Academy, I saw an assistant coach with a female in his room...I'll just pass here.

Our motto was: We would not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate those who do.

I saw Gilby Clarke with Quiet Riot and Faster *****cat recently and he was on my mind. Dizzy is the current keyboard player. Good catch sir

If your not cheating...your not trying:D

That guy who was caught with a bag of meth and who tried to steal my wallet out of my car, must really be succeeding then.

It's a cinch, that such a philosophy would not get a Congressional Appointment to a Service Academy....they all have an Honor Code of I will not lie, steal, or cheat. The Air Force Academy accepts responsibility as well.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present your Dallas Cowboys leadership.....

Notice that Jerry was nowhere to be found last night. That never happens.

And Stephen looked irritated during the pregame show. Perhaps just hungover straight from his walk of shame.

A complete embarrassment to the city, the franchise, and their families. I feel sorry for the kids and grandkids when school starts soon because the teasing will be relentless.

League office has received no complaints about Blandino’s visit to Cowboys
Posted by Mike Florio on August 8, 2014, 8:49 AM EDT

Per a league source, not a single complaint has been made by any NFL team regarding Blandino’s interaction with Stephen Jones.

And for good reason. Unless Blandino possesses the healing powers of Mr. Miyagi and used them on Tony Romo’s back, Blandino’s visit as a practical matter will have no connection to the Cowboys’ on-field fortunes. And if other teams truly are worried about the possibility that Blandino has taken residence in the Cowboys’ back pocket, those other team either need better things to worry about, or they’re worrying about the wrong things.

Blandino’s job entails visiting teams and interacting with coaches and executives. These visits, as shocking as it may seem to those who clearly don’t understand the importance of developing relationships away from work in order to enhance working relationships, often include spending time in a social setting. That’s the way it is for the V.P. of officiating, and that’s the way it’s been when others have held the job.

The V.P. of officiating actually spends extra time with members of the league’s Competition Committee. And Stephen Jones is a member of the league’s Competition Committee.

Beyond interacting in person with coaches and executives, Blandino routinely fields phone calls from most of them. Some call a lot. Are the ones who call a lot getting an unfair advantage? If Blandino is performing his job properly, the answer is an unequivocal no.
