Last time I recall was with a Detroit DT back in like 2008ish. They tagged him and traded him to Cleveland for a 2nd rounder

Like TM said it can be done but it is rare.... Jared Allen was traded this way I think

The cost is usually a 1st for a tagged player but DAL would have to have an extension in place to make it worthwhile

if they are not tagging him anyway, may be the price is a lot lower?

they get a 3rd round comp if he signs for 10m+ and we would lose the comp for Leary or TWill

paying a 3rd now wouldn't be a bad move if they don't want to tag and keep him....our 2017 3rd would be better than any 2018 comp 3rd
