Is this weekend proof you can win with Dak?

I think it is. I don't think Dak is any worse than Foles, Bortles or Keenum. In fact, I believe he's better than all three. What's missing? Coaching (obviously) and a stout top 5 defense. Vikings (1st), Jaguars (3rd), and Eagles (4th) all had top 5 defenses. Jacksonville and Philly were also top 5 in turnovers. All the talk about using premium picks on the offense really disturbs me. We really need to double/triple down on the defense this season - we need more talent in the 8-man dline rotation, we need more linebackers, and a seasoned vet or two in the secondary. I think a significant investment on that side of the ball is still needed to reach the upper echelon of defenses in the NFL. What does that mean for the offense? If I'm Jerry, I tell Garrett/Linehan to earn their paychecks and stop hogging up all the resources. With the exception of adding a piece to the oline and maybe a TE, They need to coach their way out of this rut IMO. I see offenses around the league getting by with less, but I don't see many top defenses willing/hustling their way to top 5 statuses.

Agreed! The only way to win without a franchise gunslinger is to build up a top 5 defense. Gotta spend those resources. We were nearly at the bottom of defensive soending while all the playoff teams spent between 72-112 million

You have 20,000 likes.

Dak has a record start statistically to his career. He's 22-10. You ask if we can win with him? What is wrong with some of you, lol? Like he's Deshone Kizer.

Never thought that they couldn't. Knowing Dallas, he still won't get much help though, he can't do it by himself. A top-flight defense is a must.

If the philosophy and system does not change, we will need a better QB whom may not be able to overcome the coaching.

IMO, Dak is unquestionably better than all three. You can absolutely win with him. I'm as concerned about what we saw the last 8 games as anybody, but he put together 25 great games preceding that.

Let's be patient and see what he does this year. The NFC is as open as it's ever been currently.

It's the last half of the season that I'm concerned about and if he can bounce back. But if he goes back to being who he is then yes we can win with him.

This is proof we can't even make the playoffs with Dak in a bad league.

If we build the best defense we've had in 25 years, then just maybe we can catch the league in a bad year.

That's where we are.
Dak is somewhere in between his '16 performance and what we saw this year. My guess is he's closer to '16 going forward. He's being handicapped by a conservative predictable offense.

Its pretty obvious we can win with Dak, maybe if we had a better defense and some better coaching we could win with Dak after the first 16

The likelihood of Jerry putting together a defense that can carry Dak is low.
The pieces are there to accomplish it but the Cowboys have to take advantage of this small window now where D-Law and David Irving are on the team. I don't think both will be on the team in 2-3 years.

Unfortunately, I share your lack of faith in the scouts and front office. Just doesn't seem like there's an appreciation and understanding for defense from them.

22 wins in 2years...12-4 on the road...6-2 in december.
upgrade the OG spot...add a WR...add some more pieces to our defense...I see no reason to think he can't or won't.
Dak...continue to work on mechanics.
Zeke...stay home at night.
2018......GO GET IT.

This weekend proved that this is why you play the game. No one thought the Jaguars could put up 45 points on Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. And no one thought the Saints would play the last play of the game with only 10 players.

I think he lost his confidence the second half of the season. A good offseason and TC should serve him well.

Surprisingly, our D started to come alive towards the end and hopefully they’ll build on that through the draft and FA. 2018 is our up year going by the Garrett yo-yo effect.

If you have a great defense, you don't need a franchise type QB. There are many examples of average QBs who rode their defense to the SuperBowl. I mean, freaking Trent Dilfer has a ring.

The problem is that our defense blows......................so whats the odds of it becoming top 5?

I agree....after the falcons game he looked like he was chasing ghosts in his head.
Like he was trying to prove something to someone......when he doesn't.....all he needs to do is just play.
Year 3 is when these young guns who have..."it"....make a jump.
I think he's the right guy and I think he'll have a big year.
This is a chess game....defenses adjusted to his game.....now its his turn to adjust.
I aint betin' against him.

"If Dak does this, if Dak does that..."

The two defenses who allowed the fewest points in the NFC are playing in the conference title game. How about we focus on that side of the ball for a change?
