I haven't head much about him in training camp so far. I decided to watch his individual game highlights from college on youtube thinking i would get an idea of where he's at talent wise. he looks very slim for an OT; he's built more like a DE.

well from watching about 6 game highlights from this past year i must say i wasn't impressed at all. he had a big problem with swim moves and looked to rely on his athleticism more then anything. i was expecting a dominating offensive lineman considering he was a top 10 pick and projected to start this year. i know he's only 20 and his frame will definitely fill out over time, but my ONLY question is he going to be ready to start this year?? i have a feeling he'll get tony romo killed and he needs alot more time to be groomed into a good offensive lineman.

Is he ready to start right now? No.

By the start of the regular season? I think he will be.

Either way it doesn't matter, he has to be. Young has looked dog awful in camp so far.

He's going to start at RT. He will have a few struggles as a rook but he has the talent and drive to excel.

i think his ceiling is extremely high "if" we develop him. im not sure throwing him into the kitchen right away is a good idea.

I am.

Right now he's learning how to defend against the best pass rusher in the NFL.

I've read that Tyron Smith is stoning the guys not named DeMarcus Ware, so I am pleased as pie with that. If he can block Butler, Olshansky, Spencer, etc. then he'll be fine.

Smith has improved each day of camp.

Today was his best day against Ware......actually, when Smith gets a hand on him......Ware looks like a Rookie

The problem is getting those big hands on Ware.

has he been doing a passable job against the other guys? i havent heard.. as a rookie thats all i want out of him because he will always improve. i dont expect anyone to block ware that well. i heard dough free does a pretty good job on him though which is a huge plus.

As long as he only goes up against players like Butler, Olshansky and Spencer in the regular season, which isn't going to happen.

I was against just handing Smith the starting job. I feel that eventually he's going to be very good, but rookies develop at different paces and I don't know if Smith will be an NFL-ready tackle when the season starts.

We'll just have to live with his growing pains, though, or hope that he's one of those rookies who hits the ground running when the season starts.

My biggest worry heading into the season was having him next to Bigg. Davis is gone but RG is still a concern. Despite what Jones has said, I think we'll address that position before the start of the season, most likely after the cuts start.

Who is he going to go against that is a dominant pass-rusher coming from the strong side? I read from the transcripts that once Smith gets his hands on his man, it's over. And that includes DeMarcus Ware.

I think for a rookie that's had a week and a half of NFL practice, he's doing a more-than-admirable job and I think that come Game 1 of the Regular Season, he'll be ready.

Based on everything I have heard..and I have spoken to Vela on twitter a few times regarding Smith, everything appears to be going very well and he is indeed ready.

You've done it now...

I have some of the same concerns. I guess you just have to look at all the recent high first round picks who have played started from day one at OT -- even on the left side -- and done okay.

I've been assuming a bunch of two TE or TE/FB formations will be used. The rest of you are probably able to pick actual plays we should run with a new OT.

Tyron Smith is an elite, blue-chip offensive tackle prospect. He was the best offensive linemen in the draft. You scout, draft, plug, and play the 9th pick of the draft. That is what other teams do, and that is how you develop and get younger and better in the offensive line and on your team in general.

Smith's 20 year old body and his great blend of strength and athleticism is off the charts, and it is exactly what this offensive line desperately needs. Smith is going to be a monster in the running and screen game and a huge upgrade over Marc Colombo, the worst starting OT in the NFL, imso. Smith has almost 37 inch arms, and he is the proto-type at offensive tackle (6-5, 307). Again, Smith is gifted with elite athletic skills and physical tools, and he is an extremely hard worker and a high character guy. He is exactly the type of player who you want to go fight with in today's NFL.

Tyron Smith may not be a 30 year old, $ 60 million dollar CB, but he is the 20 year old, blue-chip cornerstone of this offensive line, the key to this team's success. Smith is the best acquisition that the organization made this off season, and they could not have done any better, imso.

I can't wait to see Felix Jones run behind and with Tyron Smith in space.

Has any 1 heard anything about T.Smith using hgh or anything??

I've never heard anyone talk about this. I only wondered cuz he's from USC and he's huge.
