Just for fun. Do you think he has achieved that status yet. You have guys like

Merriman
Osi U from the Giants
Freeney, etc

and

These are the guys who lead the league

Jared Allen KC DE 26 21 5 8.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- 2 -- --
1 Osi Umenyiora NYG DE 24 21 3 8.0 0 -- -- -- -- -- 3 2 1
3 Trent Cole PHI DE 30 20 10 7.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- 2 -- --
3 Julian Peterson SEA OLB 41 34 7 7.0 -- 2 1 0 0 0 4 1 0
3 Justin Tuck NYG DE 33 28 5 7.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- 1 -- --
6 Darnell Dockett ARI DT 25 17 8 6.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- 2 1 0
6 Elvis Dumervil DEN DE 16 15 1 6.0 -- 4 1 0 27 27 2 1 0
6 Tommie Harris CHI DT 18 17 1 6.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- 0 -- --
9 Shawne Merriman SD OLB 29 22 7 5.5 -- -- -- -- -- -- 1 -- --
9 Shaun Phillips SD OLB 28 23 5 5.5 -- -- -- -- -- -- 2 -- --
9 Darryl Tapp SEA DE 20 16 4 5.5 -- -- -- -- -- -- 2 -- --
9 DeMarcus Ware

Talk about guys living off one big day against a bad offensvie line.

Osi U had 6 of his 8 against Philly who were without Tra Thomas

Julian Peterson and Darrell Tapp both had 4 sacks in one game this season

Personally, I think Demarcus is the most consistent of the bunch. Jared Allen is probably on top of his game more than anybody this season. He leads the league in sacks and he missed the first two games and I beileve they had a bye week. In some cases he is 3 full games behind some players. But back to the orginal question of "Has DWare made elite status yet?" Or is he just on the cusp? Opinions

love DeMarcus...but he is not a top 3 pass rusher. That's ok for now...and that does not mean I do not appreciate him....but I don't think he is. I don't know if it is schem or the personall around him or the coaches will not allow it...but he needs to vary the speeds at which he attack an offensive line..perhaps even get off the ball a little slower and let the OL show his cards first, then use you burst to counter their move. He could learn a lot by watching Ellis...he uses everything in the book to maximize the remaining athleticism he has. He could actually have more sacks this year at an advanced age and missing games due to injury.

I feel as if he is at this point Ware is the top LB, overall in the league.

As an overall pass rusher, the only one on his level to me is Osi.

But I'm biased. :)

Edit

Forgot Freeney and Peppers, those guys aren't half bad ;)

Ware lacks the moves which Ellis consistently seems to make. Hopefully Ellis return frees up Ware cause opponents forced deal with him. It would be a hoot if Ellis ends up with really good numbers and becomes known as a big sack leader up their with Osi & Merrimen (before steriods discovered). Between them, they have about 10 sacks. Would hope by the end of the season, they combine for at least 25.

No, Ware isn't a top 3 pass rusher in the NFL.

Yes, Ware is a top 3 pass rushing OLB in the NFL.

Hey Elvis, I heard you only racked up the sacks in college because of how dominant Montavious Stanley was.:banghead:

He's a lot more than just a pass rusher.

That's a better description -- you look at a guy like Simeon Rice (not this year but in the past) -- he could always get to the QB but he flat out stank as a run defender.

I've seen Ware make a ton of great run D plays this year. For his position, he's also pretty good in pass coverage. Obviously he's one of the best pass rushers in the league -- don't know about top 3 but certainly top 10 (and that's an impressive bunch).

We might complain about how Ware wasn't allowed to rush the passer on every play his first few years, but that has made him into what I see as the best all around 3-4 OLB in the league.
