Is Wentz Just Hype?

Wentz and Goff are clearly going to be the top 2 quarterbacks selected, but experts are split 50-50 on which one will go #2. Many people love Wentz and think the Browns will take him. Some think Goff is better and will be the pick. Personally whoever is there at 4 is who I want. Is Wentz overhyped though? Some think so, some don't, I want to see opinions on his hype. Ever since the Senior Bowl his draft stock went from a possible trade back pick up to a top 5 pick. Are the people on the Wentz train just fools?

I haven't watched much on him, but I'm just curious as to where all of this hype came from. He was pretty much considered a second rounder a couple of months ago and the pick was between Goff and Lynch between most here. He had a decent senior bowl and yet he's rocketing up all of these charts. I just am trying to figure out what he did to make him move from a 2nd rounder to a top 5 pick over the period of a month or so.

Don't think he was ever considered a second rounder
Most scouts knew about him long ago
He has all the tools you look for, big arm, big guy who can run, can throw every route and has experience under center. On top of that he is very smart and studies the game.
Goff is more ready today, he has played more games against better competition
He has great footwork, good anticipation and is small framed but tough kid.
To me and most scouts I've heard talk about them it comes down to what you get now versus a higher ceiling. No doubt if you want a guy to start day one Goff should be your man. But if you develope him Wentz has a higher ceiling.
It's really about what you are going to do with them
If I was Cleveland I'd go Goff because I think they want a guy to start right away. If I was going to sit a guy and let him develope then I'd go Wentz
Both are good prospects

I think they are getting overhyped because the qb class is weak. I think the browns and whoever takes goff would be getting decent prospects

I am very impressed with Wentz. Too bad he will be a Brown. They will be smart to draft him. Then, they need to spend the rest of the draft giving him protection and weapons. Use FA to address the D.

Draft sites may have been calling him a 2nd rounder but I can't imagine people who get paid to scout for a living giving Wentz a 2nd round grade.

He checks off too many positive traits to look past it.

First consideration probably is there is not an immediate need for a starter out of him. That is actually a plus for Wentz. Next, he has a very strong skill set that well could be developed up to speed in a three year window...from there, price is what the Cowboys decide is in the best interest for their team, talent wise.

he was definitely a 2nd rounder at one point, I remember after Thanksgiving the way too early mocks had us gettin him at #34 potentially.....

There was a reason why Sean Lee was there in the 2nd round, as there were for Larry Allen and Eric Williams...was there still quality? Sometimes a team just has to make a reasoned choice...and not go by a Draft Guru's sorting on subject.

I don't know why people waste time talking about Wentz and Goff when neither will be a Cowboy.

That part is the fun of the off season...weighing all alternatives that could be taken by the Cowboys.

They never draft any player that I care for. Just another year of disappointments for me.

Is he overhyped? Probably at this point. He;s good talking material in a class bereft of clear-cut franchise QBs.

However, that doesn't mean he won't be a good player. He has all the tools and seems to have the demeanor to succeed ... a high ceiling as they say. It's just that evidence is missing that makes it seem like a lock that he'll reach that ceiling. He's a lower-level guy who could turn out great or whose flaws might become apparent at a much higher level.

I didn't think he did particularly well in the Senior Bowl against better competition. Now, there are good excuses for that ... drops by receivers, poor pass protection. But it would have been nice to see something convincing from him in that game.
