Don't mistake this question as being, in any way, a suggestion that Witten isn't the best TE in the business or a great asset to this team.
But
Is the fact that we often have Witten runing routes in the middle of the field, and thus drawing all that attention to him in the middle of the field, part of the reason why we don't see a lot of crossing routes or routes in the middle in general?
It just came to me as a possibly explanation as to why this is the case.
The funny thing is that last route we ran at the end of the Pittsburg game was beautifully designed, not only was Witten open but a second later, if Romo could have waited, TO was also wide open in the middle. Granted, they were playing soft zone to prevent the deep play, but still.
