Being the best is subjective and opinion driven. Most think Deion was the best pure cover corner of all time, and there are plenty that disagree. I know ZM is my all time favorite because I'm a Cowboys fan.

Zack Martin is great. Larry Allen is the greatest. Larry Allen completely dominated. He emasculated the guy across from him.

I am all in on Zack Martin being one of the best of all time. He's absolutely in that conversation....as are a few others...as long as we can all agree that Larry Allen is on a completely different level.

right , maybe but im taking Larry Allen at LG or overall guard. as all time cowboys but all time far too many great choices.
I've rarely see his name pop up but Randall McDaniel as well.

He actually holds the NFL record for most first team all-pros for an interior offensive/defensive lineman (9x first team) and has 12x pro bowl

I personally believe he is the best ever to wear the star but in all of the nfl top 3 maybe, I would place Marshal Yanda as 1 or 2, then there is Will Shield also a 12 time pro bowl selection.
Yanda was an 8x pro bowler and 2x first team all-pro. He's a great player but Martin is way above him (Martin already has the same number of pro bowls as him and currently has 3x as many first team all pro selections).

Yanda if anything was a little overrated (I was surprised he made unanimous all decade selection a few years back). You could argue he wasn't even one of the top 5 best interior lineman of the 2000s

Zack Martin has got to be in the top 10 of guards all-time, and likely in the top 5 currently. Whether or not he is the best RG of all-time is immaterial to me. But the way I like to think about these kind of GOAT questions is to ask the proverbial, "if my life was on the line, who do I want playing to save it..."

Anyways, FWIW, Gil Brandt had Zack at #13 for all guards and that was when he had only 2 All-Pros to his name. He had Larry Allen at #6 which I thought was too low. At a minimum, LA is top 3 in my book.

At his best Larry Allen could eat a sandwich while blocking anyone who ever played the game. And if you pissed him off he could put you in to retirement on the next play if he wanted. He was a bad man.

It's one thing to be very good & have a great career. It's something else to say a player is in serious contention to be the best player at a position in the history of professional football. I don't see an argument for Zack. There have been some beasts.

Maybe not at the moment, but if he plays at a pro bowl level for 4 or 5 more years then quite possibly...

It wasn't the 2000's he was all decade it was 2010's all decade team, he wasn't even drafted until 2007 by the Ravens, also Zak doesn't have 3x as many first team selections as Yanda? He also started 170 games in 13 years and has a super bowl win under his belt, but "over rated"

No question at some point if he stays healthy Zak will likely be the best ever but let's wait a couple more years before we crown him as such.

A few more years for Martin? Dude, Martin has been in the league for almost a decade now. He's better than Yanda at this point, Martin has been definitively THE best guard in football since 2014. Yanda was a first time all-pro a whopping 2 times.

And nobody judges lineman by Super Bowls. Come on.

Thats fine dude, don't turn this into Cityochamps hates Zak Martin post. I agree with some of what you say. You can tag him as number one of all time if you like. For now I'll keep him at 3 (for now)

I never said anything about all decade team. That was merely a general statement (not even top 5 interior of the 2000s, I meant 2000 onwards to now)
Zak doesn't have 3x as many first team selections as Yanda?
Martin (6x first team all-pro).
Yanda (2x first team all-pro).

Not trying to sound snarky but 6 is exactly 3x as many ?

but "over rated"
In terms of recognition yes, a little bit. Him making unanimous all decade was absolutely shocking (he's nowhere close to the tier of players that made unanimous aka Donald, Peterson, Brady, Watt, Thomas).

Yeah Yanda was a good player but he's easily a tier below Alan Faneca. Faneca for those who aren't familiar took 6 years/attempts of eligibility to make Canton and that was with him playing for a franchise that the voters give preferential treatment too.......

No disrespect to Yanda but whenever his name gets brought up in regards too "unaimous all decade selection", "top 5 guard all time", and "first ballot hall of famer" I cringe a little
