Isn't it fun to have like 4/5 rb candidates, all unique like a rookie, a Dunbar, a vet

Of all the floated options, I would rank who I want to see as the Cowboys' starting RB next year this way:
1. Adrian Peterson
2. Todd Gurley
3. CJ Spiller
4. Ryan Williams
I'd be ecstatic with AD or Gurley. I would be okay with Spiller but not very excited. I would hate if it's Williams.

I do think competition is what this is all about.

Players who learn in camp that they have to compete and won their job thru it are the ones who compete in the real game. Because they learned by example that competition is bringing success to them.

And players who love to compete makes great teams.

Williams needs to hope he can make a team this year. Starting? Come on....You don't go from cut by 2 teams and signed to practice squad last year to stepping in for the Offensive Player of the Year the next year.........

I don't know, when he signed this off-season many posters said it spelled the end of Murray.

It's amazing to me that people think there is a chance Dallas is paying big money to a 30 year old running back who hasn't been truly special since the 2012 season.

If he wants the rumored asking price, then no. But the market is drying up and teams aren't gonna wanna pay that much because of his baggage.
If he takes a discount to play for his favorite team, we should jump on it. He's 30, but he's a freak of nature, he took a year off so he'll be fresh, and he'll have a chip on his shoulder. AD behind this line would be unreal, even at 30.

Yes you do know.....He received a 200k signing bonus. He hasn't even made the team yet. I know this board has a Ryan Williams fan club in it but lets not pretend he is the answer.
He has been hurt twice in 1 year. He got beat out by a group of scrub backs in Arizona. We cut him because he could beat Dunbar or Randle.... this isn't the answer.

If we are relying on competition amongst unproven and middle of the pack RBs to be our key to replacing DeMarco Murray's production, then we are in trouble.

But i do think this is how Garretts system works. Because unproven or middle of the pack players does not mean they wont be able to play good.

Look at Durant for example. When we brought him here nobody cared abou him. Was a "middle of the pack" player. Now most of the fans dont like that we lost him because he played really good for us.

both McClains were unporven and/or full of questionmarks too.

Crawford was unproven. Selvie when we brought him here. Moore. Etc ... There are alot of examples.

Create competition and expect positive things.

Hasnt been truly special since 2012 ? No offense but i do think you werent watching close enough.

He ran for 1266 yds, 4.5 av and 10 TD in 2013. He was the 5th best RB by rushing yds. And he scored a 78 yds TD.

To me that is special. Especially when you consider he had no passing game and OL and had to shoulder the whole offense on his own.

BTW he did all that in only 14 games.

I do not follow college football closely, so I rely on the good people on this board that do. I am just relaying what I heard two different guys say on the NFL Network in the last hour.

1. One dude said he could see 8 RB's in this draft capable of being week 1 starters.

2. and another guy, dont know his name but he's a former scout, just said he could point out a RB that will be available in each of the first 5 rounds that would be a productive back for Dallas.

True or false?

Definite no.

Hope we get a good one in the draft.
Little faith in what we have now.

I'm ok with Randle, Dunbar, Williams, and/or draft pick(s) competing to start. While Murray was a steal for us we don't have to find one player to replace his production. I wouldn't mind seeing our new starting RB get 20 touches a game and then have Dunbar get 10-15. We were lucky that Murray stayed healthy but I think the best way to go with a RB committee.

yea, you need to draft a rookie with no NFL experience instead. :)

For the most part, yes, I think that is true. Maybe it is only 6 instead of 8 but the gist of what they said, I agree with. RB is the easiest position to fill with a rookie and this is indeed a deep and good year for RB's in the draft.

Dallas will have a really good running game still and they will be paying their RB a fraction of what Kelly is paying Demarco. I can't say enough how smart it is to have let Murray walk for that kind of money.
