If so who RE if you keep Ratliff at NT. Can Spears play NT? I would like to to see Igor LE, Spears NT, Ratliff RE. If that was workable, you would get a nice pass rush off the right side from Jay and Ware. Whadda ya think?:starspin

No he is not a LE, he played the right and Castillo played the left. I really don't think the side matters much, its not like they can't learn to play either side.

no spears said he was better out in space

im not sure which position played lde or rde

San Diego Chargers
In the second round (# 35 overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers selected Igor Olshansky out of the University of Oregon. In August, 2004, Igor and the Chargers agreed on a 6-year contract.

Olshansky has helped make the Chargers’ defensive line one of the league’s best. His play helped finish the 2005 season atop the league rankings for allowing only 84.3 yards per game. In 2004, when he started as a rookie, the Chargers finished third in the NFL in rushing defense, allowing only 81.7 yards per game. During the 2008 season, Olshansky started at right defensive end alongside Jamal Williams and Luis Castillo.

Olshansky was ejected from a game against the Denver Broncos November 19, 2006, for punching Broncos center Tom Nalen, after what appeared to be Nalen trying to cut block Olshansky on a clock-stopping spike play. Olshansky had recently had knee surgery when Nalen went after Olshansky's knees. Two days later, the NFL fined Nalen $25,000 for the cut block, more than double the $10,000 fine Olshansky received for the punch.[1]

I really didn't pay particular attention to him in any Chargers game I watched, but every depth chart on the internet that I have found has him as a LDE. If this is true however, the only thing that would change is that unless the QB is left handed, he won't see him as well.

Are you dyslexic by chance? The Chargers depth chart definitely shows him as a right.

My bad nfl.com does have it wrong

And what about NFL, ESPN and Yahoo and also sure you understand which side is considered left on the defense? ;)

Believe it or not it is a transition to change sides because they have to pivot off of a different hand now and work the opposite angle they are used to leveraging. Some transition easier than others. Igor played RDE anyways like you said.

Lots of good nose tackles in the draft,

I like Dorell Scott from Clemson in the 3rd. He's pretty active and 10-15 lbs bigger than Ratliff.

I think he's a good fit as well.

He should be available for our 3rd round pick as well.

Maybe thats where the depth charts got messed up. If he filled in for an injured Castillo in 2007 that might have thrown off whomever put it together.
