As far as I have seen Dak has never had it. Can you point to a single high pressure game where it came down to him making the throws that he actually rose to the occasion?
He became a pocket passer after his injury and that's the problem. He sucked at passing from the pocket before the injury and he hasn't really improved at it. Ultimately his problem comes down to how slow he is getting through the reads. Process is slow which means his throws are more often than not late. Then you meet up a solid pass rush that speeds up his clock and you basically get what you saw. People want to talk about McCarthy's scheme, but he can't really scheme his way to a QB that speeds up his reads and gets the ball out on time.Hes a pocket passer that isn’t that talented at throwing the ball.
There were many of us who were saying that the Cowboys should not pay him over two years ago. We were all accused of being trolls and haters when we were pointing out his many limitations. During that time Dak has had what 2 or 3 OC's? Somehow all those OC's are accused of having a "stale and predictable" offense. The people saying they knew he was *** 2 plus years ago are talking ****. He has regressed since the start of last season
I agree the injuries could be taking their toll on dak physically, mentally, or both.
If the team is ever going to give him a chance, it's now. If there is any hope for 2024, they have to let Trey build a foundation in 2023. If the doesn't show reason for hope, you go into the offseason with clear understanding of what you need to do.I am getting more on board with Trey Lance. I’m hoping he gets on the field this season. My perfect scenario is start Trey late November or early December and see what we got. Make Dak a June 1 designation and rebuild. I would love to hear reports of Trey learning the offense or something positive from practice. I hope Dak continues his downward spiral and keeps throwing picks to push the coaches to give Trey more practice reps. Steve Young is a fan of Trey and endorses him. That’s good enough for me.
That's because 2016 the cowboys were a run first team. Very little if anything was asked of Dak. They lined up, ran the ball well, made manageable 3rd downs and kept the chains moving. Long drives that chewed up clock etc. The 49-ers however always attack the current version of the Cowboys the same way. Shut down the run and force Dak to beat you with his arm. We have faced them 3 times and lost 3 times. At what point do you get the picture that Dak simply cannot do it?2016 he was fantastic. Solid player in a solid scheme doing things he was capable of. Now when he is in tough against a quality defense he looks like an old washed up Drew Bledsoe just standing in the pocket patting the ball waiting for it all to end.
Hey, we took the abuse for years for questioning him & the teams decision to commit to him. It's not self-esteem, it's "just rewards" for being right all along. All the folks who slung the insults can now eat their crow & like it.Agreed. If I see in the first two sentences: "I told you all...." or "I was right...." then I usually go to another thread. LOL Don't need to help people reaffirm their ego or self-esteem.
Thanks, that's interesting...I wonder if he's too bulky now as well. He may have muscled up to his detriment. I watched qb school on Netflix and it was pretty cool seeing Mahomes train. He has a strength day, an explosiveness day, and a speed day. He literally trains his body to throw in uncomfortable stances/situations to form muscle memory and stretch everything out. I guess when you are that prolific you can then work on the details.
#4 never had it to lose.
The owner/GM disagrees and that's a problem.
Hate to say I told you so but a few of us have knew this about him for years!!! He’s a bus driver and can’t even do that well anymore!!!!!Agreed. If I see in the first two sentences: "I told you all...." or "I was right...." then I usually go to another thread. LOL Don't need to help people reaffirm their ego or self-esteem.
What made Dak great was that he was a duel threat QB with mobility that could also make plays with his legs. Whether it be injury or age, he can no longer do that. He cant even get out of the pocket anymore.QB is a hard position to make people happy. Even Troy Aikman was jeered out of the stadium his last years. Aikman quickly lost it at age 30, and maybe we’re starting to see it with Dak? Reading this message board, it’s easy to think in extremes with our QB. But I would like to think most of us were cautiously optimistic about Dak going into 2023.
We’ve seen some increasing inconsistencies and regressions. But it wasn’t that long ago that Dak was the Brock Purdy of the NFL - a cool, calm, collected rookie QB making all the right decisions and looking like he could go all the way in the Playoffs. Or how about 2018 when he got Coop and started lighting the offense up! Or even last year’s Playoffs. As disappointing as the San Francisco game, you can’t deny Dak was perfect in that Tampa game.
Like all veteran professional QBs, you won’t hear Dak complain about the injuries. Only the reporters will bring it up. The most unsolicited emotional shot we’ll get is the game when he was sitting on the field with his foot pointed the wrong direction. It’s also easy to forget that while not a mobile QB in the mold of someone like Josh Alllen, the run was part of Dak’s game in college and the pros, and he paid the price. Maybe just like Donovan McNabb, Cam Newton, Steve McNair, Daunte Culpepper and other mobile QBs who very quickly lost it at 30? Not everyone can be an Aaron Rodgers and take that beating to age 40.
I agree with others that we may have just seen the beginning of the end for Dak. This is the first time in his career where we can honestly say if he doesn’t rebound, he may not be on the team next year. For those who are eager to see that, and think Trey Lance is the chosen one, I want to remind you of the misery we went through with Jerry’s last hand-picked project QBs… Drew Henson, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson and the Gang!
Never say never. The season is only five games. It was a total punch in the mouth, but it can turn around. Especially with so much parity and limited roster depth. I’m more concerned that the ENTIRE team laid an egg. Hey, at least it was a team effort! But I’m rooting that Dak can turn it around. Like Romo, I cheer for Dak and hope it won’t all suddenly end from age and injuries. These guys all deserve a Super Bowl shot and it’s sad seeing so many all-time Cowboys walk into the sunset without one these days. That’s not a QB problem, that’s a GM/Owner problem.
There is no you told us so. LOLHate to say I told you so but a few of us have knew this about him for years!!! He’s a bus driver and can’t even do that well anymore!!!!!
LOL You throw enough #*$#* at the wall, something will stick. There is no you told us so. LOL
You have been wrong for 7 years on Dak.
Finally in year 8 after injury and age has caught up with him is dak now heading back towards the mean of QB play.
An 8 year old I told you so? BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Troll logic at its best.
Dak has gotten old and I no longer support paying him top QB money. Zeke got old, Dak got old, heck Pollard looks like he is getting old. Happens to all of them.
Nothing worse than an aging overpaid veteran holding back the progress of young players. Sadly I dont see Jerry figuring this one out in time.
Dak should be traded ASAP while he still has value.
