this guy has become way too unreliable in the last couple of years. I don’t remember him ever having a season where he played all 16 games, not to mention he’s guaranteed at least 2 penalties a game. There’s no doubt we need to address the Oline in the next draft and I think it’s time to start looking for smiths replacement...
Thoughts?
we have said that for several year. he is great when healthy, but as everyone says hasn't been healthy lately. so I don't disagree that we should find his replacement. however, there is only so much capital (money and picks) to go around. where would tackle be in our priorities? we needed CBs, TEs, LBs, Saftey, DT, DEs and Tackles..... where is the priority? where do you spend your capital. where do you spend prized capital (1,2, 3 round picks). should we have not drafted CD and draft a tackle? should we have not drafted Diggs? this is not just add tackle to the list and go shopping, there is alternatives to consider. and part of the consideration is if we don't draft a tackle, then what do we do (we have smith and collins). if we draft a tackle (lets say in second round) and we need CB what do we do....and then of course there is the cap. should we have signed Jones? then perhaps there was no Cooper (without knowing we would get CD)
no doubt, we should look for Smith eventual replacement. but there were other needs IMHO that needed to be addresses with far worse alternatives.
