It all started with Bradshaw

Yep, first time we played the Giants this year, Bradshaw sat out the first half because of discipline reasons. This was the first of many games that, if the Giants lose they are out of the playoffs. Yet, still coach C. decided to maintain the discipline of the team was more important than to just let a very important cog in their offense play.

Either our coach does not have the same leeway or he just doesn't seem to feel the same way. It seems like Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw feel the same...

Unlike Johnson that’s not nearly the only reason Bradshaw is questioning Garrett’s status as the head coach of America’s Team. He agrees Garrett has gone soft, no longer holding his players responsible for their actions.

“He is not my kind of guy to be a head coach,” Bradshaw said. “That’s not the kind of coach I want. I know he’s smart; a lot of guys are smart out there but I like a guy who gets in people’s face, a guy like Jimmy, a guy like Chuck Noll.”

That my friends, is the biggest difference between us and the Giants.

Great point. At kickoff, everyone knew Bradshaw would be held out, but no one knew for how long. I remember thinking at the time that it took huge guts for Coughlin to bench him for an entire half when their whole season and even his job was on the line at that time.

Not quite the same as holding out Marion Barber one play for Tiegate.

Or how Jimmy Johnson held Irvin out 1 play after missing the team flight? :laugh2:

Jimmy was not stupid and was not going to hold Mike out even though he was PO'ed at Irvin for missing the flight to Detriot.

So does this mean Jimmy was a lesser coach that Coughlin?

Maybe so, he did cut players (not star players) to send a message after screw ups. Dooms, would rather a tough disciplined coach or a cupcake? Guess I'm just more old school...Make players accountable for their actions.

He cut Curvin Richards not a big move. Hell even Irvin laughs about that one.

He sent to message bubble players as if that mattered.

I think disapline matters but when people say well this coach benched this player and that is how you do it? well there are many ways to do things, Jimmy clearly did not bench Irvin for more than 1 play why because he needed him.

By this reasoning, I guess Coughlin was stupid. But I guarantee you it got his players' attention.

No not at all he did something he felt he needed to do. Jimmy did what he felt he needed to do. Who is right and who is wrong? Neither. There is not a 1 size fits all in how to coach a team. I always get a kick out of the day after the SB as the new winner is claimed this is how you do it yet different teams have done it different ways to achive the same goal.

Screw Jimmy.... we are talking about the differences between JG and Coughlin. I prefer Coughlins approach to JG's. A player gets out of line and he gets benched... It doesn't matter who he is.

Thanks for the dig, but I'm a 70's football guy and the article I posted was from November of last year. You may think everything is all fine and dandy in Cowboyland, I just disagree. I like the tough disciplined approach, maybe you do or don't, I don't get the feeling either way with you. Yes I applaud what coach C. did and I would like to see more of that kind of attitude here.

great post

another glaring example of this lack of spine when it comes to discipline was that it was reported that the team fined Dez around 100,000 over the course of the year for several infractions but at the end of the year decided "to not make him pay the fine"

way to set a good example garrett

these sort of examples should tell us all we need to know about the discipline and accountability on this team under garrett

i had high hopes for garrett but he is turning out ot be a huge disappointment

I know what we are talking about I don't need you telling me and coughlin way has also lead to NY melt downs within a season Coughlin does things his way that does not mean 31 other coaches including those who have won SB does it the same way, No it does not

lets look at the 4 coaches in the AFC and NFC champioship games

Coughlin
Jim harbaugh
Bellichick
John harbaugh

all hard nose coaches

i'll take a couple of meltdowns if means some rings

Homers are gonna home. You won't catch the guy say a bad word about Romo or JG. They aren't the problems with this team.. it's the offensive line that doesn't give Romo enough time to throw the ball that is the problem. :bang2:

We do need an in your face coach... not a guy learning on the job. JG has done some good things around here.. but he has also done some bad things. I personally feel like he is a soft players coach. Not much better than Wade was. The question is what is his ceiling though? Can he get tougher? Can he improve? I think we owe him one more year to find out for the good things he did this past year... like solid draft picks and getting rid of "SOME" dead weight players on the team....

I never said things are fine and Dandy and hell I'm a fan from the 60's I saw Vince Lambardie and men like him. As for approaches go there have been many different ones used by many different coaches to get the same results. As for Garrett he has to be who he is not put on an act for players or fans.

All are fine coaches never said they were not. Bill Walsh was nothing like them and earned rings. You want to act like only 1 type of coach can win be my guest but I have been around long enough to know better.

So far, his results suck. Undisciplined teams make mistakes and meltdowns, like we saw this year. Sounds like you are a Jerry clone, the emperor has no clothes.

What does THAT even mean? The bar is set EXTREMELY low here, or is that just me?

It's like my runt has hold of my account again. :(

Seriously who cares about the comparison tween Red and TC? It's such a non issue its nothing.

So after they win the SB its JG's fault because he does not sit his players more often and THATS why we didn't beat the Giants?

Go to school please!!

So far Garrett has been the HC for 1 full season. I'm no one clone I think for myself and if that happens to be different from your point of view well that is your problem not mine.

I have never said this team does not have problems how you address the problems can vary. Mike McCarthy is not like Coughlin and yet each has won. If people want to believe Coughlin way is the only way fine but that is not true

It is the only thing he has calling people homers who do not agree with him. It is about as lame as it gets. Coughlin team won this year thus Coughlin way now becomes the only way to win in the NFL until next year when a different coach wins then it will be his way.

It is a joke reading much of this crap
