It is not possible for Bell to play worse than Donovan Wilson!

Bell played very well last year for a way undersized LBer. Sit Wilson on the bench and let Bell have an opportunity to start.

Donovan Wilson it pathetic in coverage. I also blame the coaching for setting him up for failure. Wilson should be up in the TE’s face, not off him by 5-8 yards. This way he can bump the TE at the LOS to slow him down.

How many Safeties have had any luck covering Kittle? Now how many have been able to do so when there’s no pressure because you’re down to you 5th, 6th, 7th string DEs!
And if I remember correctly both Bell and Kearse got torched by him last season and Bell had a PFF coverage grade around 80ish!

WHen Zimm is forced to send a blitzer.
It forces man to man coverage
Not Wilsons Forte'
Wilson not the big hitter vrs run anymore

Agree...rotate S's based on down, distance & strengths

Both safeties deserve to sit. If the younger players on the bench cant perform any better, that's an indictment on the folks building the roster.

The D is compromised by injuries and underachieving players that can’t do their jobs

Ideally— you put a CB on Kittle— but depth is limited. Ideally— your depth players along the DL can get pressure w/o blitzing— but we literally got zero pressure on Purdy so Zimm had to send guys.

The D will improve over the course of the season when we get some guys back.

The offense? All we are missing is Cooks and this offense is bottom of the barrel bad. There is no light at the end of that tunnel lol

Well part of Zim being hired was to tell him how bad Bell looked as an UNDERSIZED LB/S in the Quinn scheme which was Quinn's fault, but that Zim couldn't use his own brain and allow Bell to see what he was able to do, so that's why he's not playing

OP is right.....there was a time last season when Bell was our 3rd or 4th best defensive player. Not sure how he got into Zimm's dog house but man, he was a tackling machine last season.

I don’t think merit determines playing time here. Salary does.
Neither of the safeties are highly paid. But both are terrible. In fact, the entire secondary is terrible. I think it's partially the bend but don't break scheme. They are all playing way off the line, not being aggressive, just hoping to not give up the deep pass. We put no pressure on the QB. How exciting was it to see a single sack on Sunday night? Imagine getting a turnover! Haven't we been near the top of the league in those the past couple years? When was the last time we had one of those?

Wilson is a liability in coverage and hasn’t tackled well this year either

I’d be ok playing Bell more I thought he was pretty decent

It isn't just coverage, he is lost in the run game and looks slow out there.
