Dak like many college QB's came from a spread offense that used him strictly out of the shotgun. They have used him sparingly under center throughout his career. Matter of fact, we saw Cooper Rush far more under center in his limited games.

Why is it important to be under center? It makes a defense play honest as they don't know if a run or a pass is coming. You see teams like the Lions, Rams, 49ers, who exclusively have their QB under Center. They use a ton of pre-snap motions to dicate their match-ups across the board. Schott has stated that he wants to run a similar scheme, it starts with having his QB under center.

?? You trying to tell me they never line up in shotgun I don't know about that... Show me some real statistics now that I'm not against it happening say 50% of the time but it can get as defendable if you're in the same formation always so you got to mix it up....

Does anyone know if Dallas is implementing a new offensive system under Schottenheimer and the new OC? If so, what type of offense will it be?

I know better than to trust Google but this is just asking about Jared Goff under center seems like a lot less than you think.. I'm not saying I'm against Prescott lining up under the center more more often like a lot but not every single snap.. I have to mix it up and not be predictable and that comes from all kinds of formations and sets..

And I'm wondering how much the offense is going to differ you do realize they lost their starting alleged wiz kid and Ben Johnson so there's going to be some changes I don't even know who this new OC is it's pretty green seems like they picked someone from left field....

.
Jared Goff, the quarterback for the Detroit Lions, lines up under center more frequently than most NFL quarterbacks. In 2023, he was under center for 25.9% of his snaps, which was a lower percentage than only one other quarterback in the league. This means he wasn't in the shotgun, where the quarterback is positioned behind the center, for a large portion of the time.

Goff's tendency to line up under center has increased each of his three seasons in Detroit, indicating that the Lions' coaching staff is tailoring the offense to his strengths. He has shown to be more effective and have a lower sack rate and interception rate when under center.

They line up in shotgun on 3rd and one. It’s always about flinging it and I’m not saying it’s Dallas only.

Shoddy can talk about running the ball all he wants but when the bell rings it’s gonna be about coach Jerry getting his ROI on his passing game investments. It’ll be all about Daks arm…again.

This is like when you’ve seen a movie 40 times but still hope the sad part happens differently.

It's hard to find the stats, but came across the 2019 season for reference:

Rams-took 62% snaps under center (Jared Goff)
SFO-55% (Jimmy G)
Vikings-61% (Cousins)
Cowboys-29%

If the Cowboys do want to mimic the Lions/49ers/Rams type of offense, Dak needs to be playing more under center.

I spent a good deal of time, studying the Lions scheme during the season as Ben Johnson was the hot OC expect to take a HC job. Their offensive scheme is all based off of their running game, they use a ton of playaction to set up their passing game. Goff being under center disguises their attention.

Dak is to big and cumbersome, slow to come out from under center, find his receiver and get the ball to him. Even in shotgun all he does is lock on a receiver and waits to long to deliver the ball. Under center would be a disaster for Dak.

Plus, the center would get his ears blown out by Dak's "Here we gooooo!"

He reportedly wants to run a similar scheme as the Rams/49ers. We need to see it, to believe it, but if they do, QB under center is a staple.

Cousins had a ton of success with the Vikings playing under Center, Jimmy G as well, these aren't the most athletic QB's out there, same as Goff.

We are talking about Dak though. They are all not the same person.
