Back in the day if you were unfortunate enough to be plunked deep with an arrow there was only one solution.
Push the arrow through until emerged on the other side.
Yeah, it hurt as it tore through your flesh, but it was a necessary evil on the path to getting better. There had to be more pain before there was any chance of it getting better.
That's how I see this season.
On a team like this, there are some benefits to losing.
Losing creates change, something that's desperately needed on this team.
The worst thing that could happen is to have this team eek out a few wins and finish 6-10 or 7-9, then have Jerry turn around with some false sense of hope that the current assembly of players and coaches could compete in 2011.
Losing sobers you.
You better believe Jerry is humilated and embarrased, as he should be since he created this mess. IMO, Jerry knows Wade is a lame duck, and I think he'll shift gears and get someone with a fresh philosophical perspective that this squad of underacheivers needs.
I know people are skeptical of Jerry and understandibly so. However, I think we saw a glimmer of hope with some of his comments after the game. Namely, the fact he acknowledged the reality that he doesn't have a group of winners he thought he did.
That's important.
Losing seperates the chaff from the wheat.
We are going to see who the wheat (those worth keeping) and the chaff (those who need to be uprooted and tossed) are.
If it means losing veterans like Andre Gurode, Bradie James, Marcus Spears, et cetera, so be it. (just naming a few vets, not implying I know who the weeds are...)
If it sets this team back a few years because you have to replenish and rebuild it, so be it.
Those are just a few of the reasons why I welcome this team losing at this point.
It has to get worse before we see chance of getting better.
