In regards to their Salary CAP situation this year.

Lots of high priced players.
Some up and comers looking for a bigger pay day after the Super Bowl win.

I think they are in a spot and may need to trade Foles to get under the CAP for this year.
That and a few restructures.

They are carrying almost no dead CAP over.

If they have to release then that will go up and if they extend that pushed the $$$$ into 2019 and 2020.
Then Wentz comes up for another contract.

Kind of reminds me of the Cowboys with their last Super Bowl win season and trying to pay everyone.
Then the good backups left.

the smart thing is to re-tool. trade guys away that have 1-2 years left on existing contracts whose arrows are pointing up so you can re-tool through this draft. They may not repeat but they will have younger core that will be around 3-4 years.

Why would you think that was the smart play? The Eagles have a team that had very few weaknesses. The window of championship runs is now wide open. They have the vast majority of their team signed for the next two years. I don't think they have to think about retooling until Carson is due a new deal. Other than that a move here and a move there has them right where they need to be.

They also are against the cap. you can't keep everyone, you have to pick an choose which will be major contributors and play on par to new contracts and let other "lesser" players go. The climate in the league among players is get a championship then get paid, the hunger and drive pretty much falls off after the 2nd contract or the 1st championship.

The good thing is all of the starters besides 3 of them IIRC are signed. Torrey Smith is a easy goner, that’s 5 mil right there IIRC. Vinny Curry will either restructure or he’s gone too. Hoping Peters takes a pay cut. Donnie Jones retired, I think that’s 1 Mil. I don’t think it’s too difficult to get under the cap.

The difficult part is re-signing Bradham. The other guys I’m okay with letting go, but Bradham will be a tough loss. Especially since he was the signal caller when Hicks went down, Hicks has a history with injuries.

I hear you but I’m think the toughest loss will be Burton. He was a match up nightmare. Super productive and versatile. Bradham is in tough spot. After Schwartz left Buffalo Bradham had a tough go of it. He knows this is the best place for him scheme wise. He will see what the market brings but if it goes on for weeks he knows he’ll be giving up leverage. I think Curry is gone. You have to get Barnett more field time. Get a 4th for him and move on.

Howie will probably keep Foles being he's no doubt a great backup. And with the Champs winning it all, Wentz won't have a walk in the park schedule like he did last season. He'll get hurt again no doubt.

What's more, he now has a tall order to fill, and Foles put a monkey on his shoulder which will be his new pet for many years to come. But, should Howie get big coin for Foles, he'll be gone. Which, will be even more pressure for the red head.

I think Curry will restructure. The Eagles were his favorite team growing up, I’m sure he’d love to stay. I hope we stay deep at DL, so keeping Curry another year wouldn’t be bad although everyone wants to see more of Barnett. The guy is gonna be a good one.

As for Burton, it’s a loss but we didn’t use him as much as we use Bradham anyways. The guy is definitely talented and as a starter should end up being a top ten TE in the league imho. But losing him isn’t as big of a loss as losing Bradham imo. Hopefully Billy Brown has developed a bit. There aren’t many strong side OLBs on the market. Bradham is the best one. Hope he takes a hometown discount.

Forgot to mention we will probably move Foles too, should give us some more money to work with hopefully. Just need to address our depth as teams will be snatching our guys behind our starters now.

They are 10m over the cap right now, they can remedy that by restructuring Fletcher Cox (which i am sure they will), then if they trade Foles (for a draft pick) they gain another 7m in cap space which would pay for the draft. They only have 400K in dead money (plus they already have everyone under contract) so if they make those moves they can basically keep the same team in 2018 that they had in 2017 plus whatever draft picks pan out and make the team. The Eagles are now in that 2-3 year window where they can keep the team together before they have to sign Wentz to a $150m deal

I'm not so sure the Eagles skate on all the Foles $$$$ if traded. If they get picks I think they would ask for future picks. 2019 and or 2020.
And with Cox they are pushing that $$$$ into their future which is a bit tight with their CAP now.

Can you hear the Eagles chanting in the Linc. If things go wrong with Wentz.

"We want Foles.... WE WANT FOLES!!!!!"

Lol. You KNOW it's only a matter of time before that happens. Be great if the first Foles chant would come when our 'Boys visit Philly:muttley:

i wonder what happens to you guys when Dak gets hurt. Because as you suggest with Carson, it's inevitable. And stop with the crap about a tougher schedule. It's basically the same as the one you'll get. That being the case, a team that finished 16-3 has more to worry about than a team that finished 9-7? LMAO. That's just dumb.
The true measure a how good a team is their net points. In the regular season we finished plus 162 net points. You finished with a plus 22. in the one game we played that meant anything we out scored you 31-0 in the second half. What in that game told you that you were close to us competitively? What aspect of that game suggested that a few plays could have made a difference? There were none.
I've seen it all here, Carson will never be the same, he has pressure from Nick, the schedule will be tougher. Well we played the best in the league in the play offs. We beat the defending NFC champs and two teams that were 13-3. Why should a tougher schedule shake us? What you will find out that Carson Wentz is the truth. Hoping against hope that he fails won't work. Most here know that, it’s always a fringe few who need to learn.

They don't seem to be worried about it they just traded for Michael Bennett and his 7.5m cap hit....This is a team on the move

Or reaching to stay in place for this year.
Because they will hurt themselves down the road with this - eventually.

Do you understand how “windows” work? The Eagles know they have three years before they have to pay Wentz. So you do everything you can to maximize every season before that. When teams have to pay QBs it sets them back.
You will have to pay Dak before we have to pay Wentz. And what will you have to show for it? You’ll lose the one stud defensive player next year. With our move today we basically made you have to draft a OL early. Takes half the stud players off your want list.

I've know how the window works before you knew the concept of a window.
