So what should I do?

Looking to get one for both of my daughters for Christmas this year. Looking at the 8Gig. It is a 3rd Gen. Is this a good product? I read somewhere that the 3rd gen is really the 2nd gen.

What's the story guys?

The difference between the 8GB and the others (other than hard drive capacity) is that the higher-capacity ones have a faster processor and voice control function.

It's basically the same thing they did with the iPhones when the 3GS came out--they kept the previous generation option for those looking for a lower-cost device and didn't mind missing out on a couple of newer features. I have the 3G, my husband has 3GS. I don't miss the features I don't have, and the processor speed difference doesn't seem to have an impact on how I use my phone, either.

Here's Apple's handy-dandy chart for the iPod models.

Hey dc chick--know anything about the htc hero

Are they old enough for cell phones?

If so, just get them iPhones.

iphones are on the AT&T network and we are on Verizon.

8gig is more than enough.

If they are old enough for phones, you could always get a "cracked" one and use it on the verizon network.

Its a phone who's software has been modified to allow it to be used on other networks.

don't even bother.

I see. so what's the downside to that?

You'd have to buy the phone off contract which is just about as much as the upper-end touch.

You'd have to "crack" it each time new software came out and if Apple ever found a way to detect cracked phones, you'd be up ****s creek.

Did you really wiki link that? I thought there was going to be some story about some kid getting caught.

There would be if being hanged, drawn and quartered was still a legal punishment. The link is because I'm willing to bet there is more than a few people here that probably didn't know what the drawn and quartered part means. (which is my favorite!) :laugh2:
