BAT, would Black move to FS in the pros? I doubt he could play SS given his size. Is he seen more as a nickel or dime guy in the NFL? Or a full time starter.

Think Black could play either position, but he has the temperment & ability of a modern day SS. The modern era SS has become more corner sized with strong man to man skills as well as retaining the willingness for contact. In essence the modern day strong safety still has to play near the LOS but has much more coverage responsibilities (from slot receivers to TEs).

Similar to the modern era SS, Black is under 6'0 (Polamalu 5'10, Sanders 5'8, Nick Collins 5'10, Eric Weddle 5'11, Pat Chung 5'11). Black is 5'9. Black is also a ferocious tackler with very good technique. And he has ability and speed (sub 4.5) to cover receivers one on one.

Black's weakness is not necessarily his height, its his weight. He needs to get in the 210 range where many of the modern day SS play at. Black looks like he has a smallish frame and is already muscular at 185. But I love Black's penchant for making plays and his tenacity. He plays with a chip on his shoulder for sure. At the very least he will make a very good slot corner.

If Cowboys do not take Black there are a few others who should be available with the 3rd pick that fit my criteria. Guys like John Moffitt, Ras I Dowling, Owen Marecic, Greg Romeus, etc.

There's not a chance Black gets to 210. The kid simply has too small a frame

I would want him that big anyway. Theres already questions about his speed.

I think you take him as is. And if the inury thing scares you away then so be it.

Personally I think hes got a fire and swag to his game that our D could really use.
