Pulled this quote/info out of a recent post found on "Blogging The Boys"...

"On Thursday, the Ravens held the Broncos to a remarkably low 65 yards on 23 rushes, for an average gain of just 2.8 yards per carry. After all the Week 1 games are played, the Ravens could easily emerge as the best run defense in the league. But they gave up 49 points anyway."

It's also about how the running game was used. Denver did what they wanted with the running game. The majority of those runs were late in the game when Denver was up by 30 points and trying to wind the clock down.

The anecdotal evidence isn't convincing. But the mountain of data that's shown for decades it's not at all important to stop the run is.

The Commanders put 200 on us and we still had a chance until Romo blew it.

The only reason Denver ran was to give Manning time to rest his arm.

:D

In the NFL you must be able to stop the run and run the ball. If you can't do both you can't win championships.

Werent the giants last in the nfl in rushing the year they won the superbowl? Packers could of easily gotten to the Superbowl in 2011 too..

Every season and every game is unique. There's no blueprint to winning. The key is to eliminate as many flaws as possible so that you can win any type of game.

Uh............there is only one Peyton Manning.

Amen to that brother. In my opinion, he is the greatest qb to play the game... ever! No disrespect to Roger the dodger or our beloved Troy. I watched them both and loved every minute of it but neither of them could do what Peyton did with the talentless Colts team that he won the superbowl with. He single handedly lifted that team from gutter trash to a decade of relevancy None of his receivers have gone on to amount to anything once they left him and even the great Reggie Wayne (and he is great) isn't near the receiver he was without Peyton..

I agree PM is the best QB to ever play. Look what happened to the Colts the year he couldn't play. He carried weak teams for years. Had he played on stronger teams, there is no telling what might have been.

As it relates to the Ravens Broncos games, there was no need to stop the run b/c they couldn't stop the pass. If it ain't broke, don't fix it type of thing.

Green Bay only allowed 2.64 ypc against SF.

SF only allowed 63 yards on 19 carries (3.31 ypc).

Yet GB gave up 400+ pass yards and SF gave up 300+.

I bet if a Manning or Rodgers or any other QB could run the ball right down the opponents throats, and were having trouble passing against them, they would run the ball much more.
