I believe that this season's hope depends on his willingness to slow the offense down.

We have the capabilties to look alot like the early 90's teams

......before you guys go crazy let me explain lol

we have a very good qb who can make all the throws that troy aikman can and escape out of the pocket...he just has to cut back on the turnovers which if we run the same offensive gameplan that troy did ...he will.

we have three rbs that together can put up emmitt smith type years if we committ to the running game.

and actually felix gives us a little more coming out of the backfield.

i think the whole mess about roy being a number one is hust rediculous he does not need 1500 yard years in this offense to make this work.

1100 and 10 tds works for me which he will acheive with a good qb throwing to him and better players around him.

he has great hands and good enough speed. i can see him matching michael irvin's production here.
Irvin just had a heart you couldnt even compare any wr to.

we have the greatest tight end in our history playing for us and happens to be the best in the league. so throwing to him on 3rd down shouldnt be hard.

He's easily better than novacek even though im not taking anything away from jay because he was goood but jason's the man and on pace to break records all time nfl records.

and last our oline.... we have a very big o-line that has early 90's potential marc columbo reminds me of erik williams in terms of nastiness less atheletic.

BIGG reminds me of nate newtown big time road grater.

garoude at center is one of the nfc's best except for the shotgun so he is comparable to stepnoski.

there is no larry allen here though....not at all but thats ok if kosier or holland stay healthy and be solid.

and flo if he can keep the false starts down and stay healthy can be the anchor on the left side.

that being said we'd have to really committ to running the football-at least 400 times barber-250 jones-160- choice-120???

and run effectively on 1st down so the play action can be more effective on 2nd and 3rd.

once the field gets shortened for romo 3rd and 5 or less we have more options.

we have two great options to go to on 3rd and short royw11 and witten and feli coming out of the backfield.

Patrick crayton is good in short space too with his usually good hands

Not to mention that once defense's start to play a shorter field against us miles austin can kill them down field one on one.

we also will continue to move the chains and wear defense's down and keep ours fresh.

i think that this year's cowboys is easily better than last years giants (with plaxico) barber, healthy felix, choice is better than jacobs, bradshaw, ward.

witten is better than their tight end and second, third wr's.

and romo is better than eli especially with the same offensive gameplan.

So with that bark away at me but i think we can definately be there in the superbowl because we have the talent its just about using the proper gameplan not just throwing 40 times a game like last year, and not committing to the run game.

the steelers ran that gameplan keep it simple and play defense and it worked twice this decade and they are always in the thick of things with to me less big talent.

last year rothelisberger was getting killed but tomlin told him dont worry just keep it simple willie parker was hurt most of last year and they still ran the ball, big ben had last options but made the plays when he had to and the steelers never got away from the basics.

hines ward isnt no deep threat or big play guy like boldin (who people on this board is in love with.)

no witten just heath miller (who is coming into his own)

and their oline wasnt very good last year the o-coordinator just didnt hang ben out to dry too many times like ours did romo.

so with that said im actually with jerry on this one... the talent is in place......its just gonna depend on the guy who runs the offense and our health.

Well, the media crowns and dethrones golden boys annually, in 2007 Garrett was the toast of the NFL, a new Joe Gibbs or Bill Walsh, an offensive guru destined to head coach a dynasty,

In 2008 he was suddenly David Shula or Bruce Coslet, a drowning has been.

Let us take a step back and observe what unfolds in 2009, if it is not improved I will join in the discontent but for now grace applies.

A lot of stuff for us to think about.... But this season will come down to our offensive line performance. This group looks better on paper than on the field playing....they seem to loose focus and get physically tired as the season goes on.

We will see if any of this has been addressed in the off season. We need smarter, younger, and better athletic lineman.

Garrett has a lot to prove to NFL and to Cowboy fans...during last season we saw what happens when he is pitted against great defensive minds...CHECKMATE!! game over. Signs of a young offensive coach, we'll see if Garrett learned from last year, if one thing he needs to spend more time in the film room more than ever, because if we keep seeing A## beatings like we did in 2008 especially in the second half of games, Garrett might be seeing his NFL career being washed down the toilet in 2009. To me he hasn't impressed me one bit.

I read most of your post, and you pretty much have a good grasp on players and their perspective abilities, BUT, and there always is a but, offensively, pinning your hopes on an OC to "slow the game down" is not very viable at this point and here's why:

(1) He calls the plays, but he doesn't execute them on the field.

(2) His play calling has become predictable and ordinary over the past season.

(3) Tony Romo seems to audible more than expected in situations when we need a certain amount of yardage to keep the drive and the chains moving with his gunslinging mentality.

All these factors and there are more, but these are the most glaring of them as an example. Then let's not discount the injury factor along with the play calling.

I hope as you do, that it all works out, But Garrett needs to change his philosophy into a run oriented offense, with three outstanding runners we have in our backfield. I love your premise of "old school" football, because I'm old school, and it works for the most part. But again execution on the field matters more than any other factor, and Big Red doesn't control it .

for Garrett to do well the offensive line needs to do well.with good line play some his more complicated pass plays can work well.I would hope that he incorporate some easier and short range passes into his repertoire.

I think down and distance has a lot to do with the predictability of the offense when you lead the league in penalties and are looking at long yardage situation quite often it cuts into your playbook and gives the defense a good idea of what you will be forced to do to move the chains. No doubt Garrett will be under pressure and having this team cut down on penalties will fall to him and Wade.
