It's AMAZING how all of a sudden Garrett has redzone issues

It seems like the local, national media and fans are all of a sudden questioning JGs redzone or playcalling in general. This is NOTHING NEW. But there are tons of apologists who shouted a few of us down when we said we love him as the head coach....but as the architect of an offense, he is average. Of course that had many point to where we rank, how many yards and/or points we score. It does not mean ANYTHING. A blind man can watch this team and see it has ZERO idenity inside the redzone. We actually look painful to watch down there. So Romo asks an article to be written that tells us where we rank. And the article has been written....2nd to last in the redzone. And DEAD last in goal to goal. So all you stat boys chew on that. And the rest of you are late to the party. I said weeks ago (and have been saying for a while)...that Rob Ryan as an architect of a defensee is light years better than Garrett as an architect of an offense. Rob has been with these players all of 3 months..and already we look like a defense that will be a tough out this year. Garrett has been here 4 years...and we look like hog slop for too often! Sorry, this has been obvious to me for too long and right now I am boiling over. Again, sorry!

It's why I've always thought Tim Tebow is much more valuable than the mediots think he is. The guy is almost unstoppable from inside the 10 yard line. That is more valuable than gold in the NFL. All he does is score touchdowns.

What I wouldn't give for a player like that on this team. Of course Garrett would call a screen pass to Bennett or a Utah pass to Choice instead of letting someone like Tebow score so it wouldn't matter.

Red zone play, and particularly the red zone play calling, has been a favorite whipping boy for the Cowboys' offensive struggles for a couple of years now, so it may be worth refreshing our memories about how good or bad the Cowboys actually were in the red zone in the last couple of years.

Over the last few years, the Cowboys have oscillated between a top 10 and top 15 position in the league, with a touchdown percentage in the red zone in the mid 50%, and have been consistently above average. In '06, '08 and '10, the Cowboys saw those numbers climb close to 60%. That's not bad at all, and certainly doesn't match the widely held belief that the Cowboys have sucked in the red zone for a few years now.

Sure, the Cowboys have struggled to get enough push, particularly in short yardage situations, but from an overall point of view, they were able to compensate for that. Not so this year. Here's how their red zone play has looked this year:

The Cowboys' TD scoring percentage of 33.3% (6-for-18) is the second worst value in the league. The only team worse are the 0-5 Rams (25%, 3-for-12). And right behind the Cowboys are the Texans (36.5%, 8-for-22), which just goes to show that being a top 10 offense and defense isn't worth all that much if you can't punch the ball in when it counts.

Another team with 18 red zone possessions are the Oakland Raiders (I shudder at the thought of having to use them as an example for the Cowboys, but that's what it's come to). The Raiders scored 12 TDs on their 18 possessions for a 66.7% TD scoring percentage, the fourth best value in the league. Think about that for a minute. The Raiders scored 6 more TDs on the same number of possessions.

I agree that Tebow is valuble once the team gets in the red zone and especially if that teams has no good goal line backs.

This does not speak to what sort of QB Tebow is or will be. That remains to be seen and I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Oakland is 4-2 and has a buch of good young players, so I'm not so sure we need to look down on them.
They lost thier QB though.

agreed. the team has had redzone issues for a couple of years. It was a criticism of Garrett last year when Wade was still here.

I don't know what the solution is though. Dallas doesn't really have the run blocking ability to power its way into the endzone. We've seen what Dez can do if you just throw it up and let him leap for it. I don't think Dallas has ever really done/tried that with Bennet, another big/tall guy.

Whether its no faith in it working by Garrett or Romo not being able to make that pass, I think it's an aspect of the offense that would help greatly in the redzone considering that has receivers to do it

Romo did throw one to Bennett. It was a hybrid between a jump ball and back shoulder fade. It was incredibly ugly. Probably why we don't do it
