Actually, they do exist, and I eat them all the time. I like to pretend I'm chomping on Commanders players when I eat them. Yeah, I'm weird.

The thing is, a truly educated fan will never go on another team's fan website and act like a troll. There are Commanders fans who I consider to be really bright, intelligent, articulate guys. They don't come here shooting their mouths off about how our last playoff win was in 1996. All that posters who do that want is to try and look smart and funny on a rival team's forum and they fail miserably. They simply do not know enough about the game to appreciate the History of it.

I respect a fan who thinks their team is the best in the world and can intelligently explain why they love their team. I have nothing but disdain for anyone who thinks they can holler about a bandwagon, not know what the hell they are talking about, and then disappears to let their fanny cool down after I spank them like an ugly stepchild.

Agreed. But I did find me a Commanders forum where the vast majority of them, that I've seen, are good guys who intelligently post about the games and such. I go there here and there to get in on some conversations.

Hmm.

But are they indigenous only to the DC area? And why did they adopt the name Commanders while still in Boston?

Oh and since 1973 came after 1932, I would say he still is wrong. ;)

Ask a Commander fan who Barnee Breeskin is and I doubt they'll know. Ask a Commander fan about his significance to the arrival of the Cowboys into the NFL, and you'll likely get a blank stare in return (which is not abnormal for their fans anyway).

75 white chickens, one black chicken. :D

I was thinking of sharing this story tomorrow for part III.

Nice job.

You see, the name actually comes from a brand of peanut that is indigenous (hell no he didn't use that word, he was an idiot) only to the area around Washington, DC.

What an embarrassment to Commanders fans. Everyone knows it's not peanuts. That's just stupid. We're named after the potato(e)!

Very well said. I get very irritated (with Commanders fans as well) when they start running their mouths but don't have a clue about what they're saying. And can never, ever back anything they say up. I stop talking to them and I certainly stop watching football with them. (Watching the Bucs game last year, I had a friend there who is a Broncos "fan" -- wearing a very new Brian Griese Broncos jersey. Had no idea Griese couldnt beat out Rex Grossman. Or the Dallas fan that referred to Marion Barber as "Tiki," several times)

If peanuts had to be in the mix... they could have called themselves the:

btw... Commander Peanuts are not a DC phenomena... I've been eating them since I was a small lad down here in Texas. My favorites are definitely:

You are quickly becoming one of my favorite Commanders fans who visit the site. You have a sense of humor and are football smart too.

As a younger Commanders fan (23) I do appreciate parts of the history lesson. Granted I don't support anything GP Marshall did, but I also never thought we were named after a peanut. I like to appreciate our rivalry for exactly what it is, a great sports rivalry. Doesn't mean we literally hate you or the people on your team. We love trying to beat your team and vice versa. So thanks again for the great read and good luck to both teams.

And here's hoping for no injuries.

Yesterday I asked several Commanders fans to tell us about the peanuts. They wouldn't, so I will. I have shared snippets of this story before, but never the whole story.

<snip>

Ever since that day I have made sure one thing is on my game day menu. Peanuts. Get your fresh hot peanuts.

Sonny #9 is a good guy... he defends his team but doesn't get much into the innuendo...

Good post by you too, Redskins21...

This is a great rivalry, but I, like many Cowboy and Commander fans, get tired of it being drawn into the muck...

We do draw on our history, but many skin fans still draw on what happened 15 years ago. That is ancient history and the Cowboys have the least arrests of any team of the major three sports in five years...

We are both stellar franchises with HUGE fan bases. I like it when we make arguments to who will win with our current teams...

Carry on...

It was already clear to me that he had no idea of the study of etymology, which is the orgin of words. If he had known of it he would have found that there was no such thing as a Commander peanut. I am sorry to tell you that. I know you were all adding it to your grocery lists.

Funny story Hos, I got a good chuckle out of you dressing-down that chuckle-head. But sorry, the chef in me couldn't let this slip by.

There are "Commander" peanuts. In fact, there is a "Virginia Commander" peanut, that is sold by several on-line retailers, found easily through a google search.

If you've ever seen or eaten the product called "Beer Nuts", those are "technically" Commanders.

;)
