No stories today, just a look inside the rivalry. I hope that doesn't mean a swift death to the thread, but it probably will.

The Cowboys began play in The Cotton Bowl. The first two times they played the game ended up tied. The only two ties in the History of the rivalry, and 2 of the 6 the Cowboys have ever had.

In The Cotton Bowl the Cowboys ended up 6-3-2 against the Commanders. The Cowboys scored 299 points and averaged 27.2 points per game. The Commanders scored 219 points and averaged 19.9 points per game. This means the Cowboys won 66.7% of the games in The Cotton Bowl.

Here are the results of the games. For those wondering about when Texas Stadium opened in 1971, it was October 24th, so the final game was still in The Cotton Bowl. I have mistakenly been crediting the last game to Texas Stadium.

11/19/61...Tied @ Dallas, 28-28
9/16/62...Tied @ Dallas, 35-35
11/3/63...Won @ Dallas, 35-20
9/20/64...Won @ Dallas, 24-18
9/26/65...Won @ Dallas, 27-7
12/11/66...Lost @ Dallas, 31-34
11/19/67...Lost @ Dallas, 20-27
11/28/68...Won @ Dallas, 29-20
12/21/69...Won @ Dallas, 20-10
12/6/70...Won @ Dallas, 34-0
10/3/71...Lost @ Dallas, 16-20

Tomorrow will be the last game for the rivalry in Texas Stadium. The Cowboys are 26-9 at Texas Stadium against the Commanders. The Cowboys have scored 853 points and averaged 24.4 points per game. The Commanders have scored 586 points and averaged 16.7 points per game. This means the Cowboys have so far won 74.3% of the games in Texas Stadium. A win tomorrow bumps that to 75%. A loss drops it to 72.2%.

Texas Stadium has been a great Home Field Advantage in the rivalry.

Here are the results of the games in Texas Stadium.

Overall the Cowboys lead the series in Dallas 32-12-2.

The longest Cowboys winning streak was 9 straight seasons from 1996 through 2004. The longest losing streak was 3 straight seasons from 1987 through 1989.

Tom Landry was 17-8-2 in the games in Dallas. As we already know he was 6-3-2 at The Cotton Bowl. This means he was 11-5 in Texas Stadium.

Jimmy Johnson was 3-2.

Barry Switzer was 3-1.

Chan Gailey was 2-0.

Dave Campo was 3-0.

Bill Parcells was 3-1.

Wade Phillips is 1-0.

We are 15-4 in the Jerry Jones era.

I had fun with this series this week. Hope you did too.

Man... if we hadn't let Santana Moss get behind us twice in two minutes, tomorrow we'd be looking to extend our 12 game home winning streak against the Skins.

Hos I just read all your Commanders week threads. Great stuff.

I didn't know Clint Longley was an ACU alum... Doesn't make me real proud of my alma mater though :laugh2:

Just about all Cowboys fans know our record in the Super Bowl is 5-3. Hardcore fans might even know that our all time Post Season record is 32-23. I thought you might like to know the breakdown of how we have done in each round of the Post Season. This will also give you an idea of how long it has been between advancements to each round.

The names of the post season games have changed a few times and the number of games to reach the ultimate game have too. Did you know that the Packers actually won a Super Bowl before Super Bowl I? It's true. In 1965 the game that today would be considered the Conference Championship was actually called Super Bowl and the Packers won it. They went on to win the League Championship a week later. After the 1966 season the Championship officially became the Super Bowl.

From 1960 through 1964 there was only one game to determine The Champion. Two teams squared off and the winner was NFL or League Champion.

In 1965 the tournament to crown a Champion became 2 levels or games and it remained 2 games for 1966.

In 1967 they added a 3rd round that today would be equivalent to the Divisional Round of the Playoffs.

In 1978 they created the Wildcard Round and added the idea of the best teams in each Conference getting a bye for that week. Five teams from each Conference made the playoffs.

It became 6 teams reaching the Playoffs with 2 teams earning a bye for the first round in 1990. This format has been followed ever since. The Cowboys have earned 8 byes counting 2007.

So, here is how the Cowboys have fared in each round. The notes in parentheses after some games are to denote when the game had a different name.

Well you guys have everything to lose, the Commanders have nothing to lose.

A win for the Skins will cause the Boys lots of questions.

My 2 cents for you guys, beware of Devin Thomas.

See you tomorrow!

Ummm...wrong. They both have something to lose. A game and a shot at partial lead in the NFC East.

A Commanders loss drops them to 2-2 which is two games behind Dallas and a game behind the Giants, well actually two since you lost to them as well.

Couple that with the fact that the week after this you have Philly and if they beat you and all the sudden your 2-3 on the season and 0-3 in the division.

But, yeah, you're right. You've got absolutely NOTHING to lose.

Sorry I misunderstood your point. I was just eating my Commander peanuts, not paying attention. :)

Hopefully this year we get the chance. :p:
