It's Easy To See What Happened: T.O.'s Publicist Overreacted...

Cowboys#1 already nailed it, he couldn't keep the pills in the child proof container because of his hand. There is nothing fishy about it.

I'm sorry guys I don't see any one being at fault. Be it TO, his publicist, police or media. I'm not sure why people feel the need to place blame on every situation.
I'm with you, except for the media.

I guess I'm not even blaming the people who work in the media as much as the way in which news is delivered.

We now get instantaneous news. Stories aren't developed before they are reported. Instead, little factoids are ejected into the airwaves in real time, bit by bit, before it is clear what has or hasn't happened. And various media figures weigh in on "the situation" before the facts of "the situation" are known - prematurely attempting to provide perspective.

I guess it makes for more drama. It also makes for more mistakes.

Some of you crack me up. The pills were out of the bottle and in the drawer because he is on a strict schedule when it comes to all the supplements he takes. He probably puts each supplement into one highly organized pill box to make the schedule easier to keep track of.

It's easy to see why. It was a crazy situation and the police wanted to get their facts straight before coming to a final judgement. Unfortunately, the media didn't want to do the same thing.

You've got to be kidding. Granted, the media is a monster but everyone knows that the media will run w/ what it's given and it is supposed to. Yes there were mistakes made by the media today, chiefly by ESPN, but the Dallas PD are the ones that really screwed the pooch on this one.

The police obviously didn't get their facts straight and somebody leaked the "internal police document" probably because some reporter offered enough money to get it. You can tell in the press conference w/ the police lieutennant that he was pissed and trying to separate the dept. from that document. "This is our official statement."

All this said, it has come down to the police department vs. Kim Etheridge. The 911 call will probably shed a lot of light on the subject. She seemed pretty sure in her statements until she said something along the lines of "It's been a long night and I can't remember anything." But she seemed confident in her statements which makes me think the police report that got out just got out prematurely b4 the proper authorities could corroborate and edit.

DPD is gonna have a tough one w/ this.

Who is Kim Etheredge?

If you've followed the T.O. saga over the past few years, you've seen this woman's name appear in print many times. Kim Etheredge (right) is T.O.'s publicist and probably his most trusted ally.

She was prominently mentioned in his latest book, and she's the person to call when you're looking to get shot down on an interview request.

I've actually had several conversations with Etheredge over the past few months, and she seems like a nice person.

I do think it's a little ridiculous that she ended this afternoon's news conference by saying there are "$25 million reasons" why her client wouldn't take his own life.

It's comforting to know that wealthy people don't have to deal with mental health issues.

Just think how happy we could all be.

She obviously got scared for a friend in need......did not know what to do herself....thought about her job loss if T.O died, then called 911 to save T.O. and her job!

....first of all let me say, I'm not blaming her. I think anyone concerned about a person would have done the same thing.

However, in hindsight, knowing the basic facts now, the situation last night did not require a call to 911. The proof of that is that the hospital didn't do anything for him, they released him and he's fine today.

But it's easy to see why she did it. She saw an empty bottle of pills, didn't know the 35 pills were in another drawer, she saw him not responding like she thought he should and she freaked out. A call goes out to 911 and away we go.

I do have one question. What were the 35 pills doing in a drawer and why weren't they in the bottle?

Your post contradicts itself. He is a physical speciman and was unresponsive. She saw an empty bottle of pills. She did exactly the right thing calling 911. I absolutely agree with your point about the 35 pills. If he produces them, end of story.

I said I didn't blame her, anyone else probably would have made the same call. But, knowing what we know today, there was no need for a 911 call. That is a fact. The hospital did nothing for him and released him.

I was just thinking about the fact that we've had this firestorm of hysteria today, when, in retrospect, it wasn't even an emergency situation.

That was a good point made above about the child-proof cap and having surgery on his right hand. That's actually a simple explanation for why the pills were out of the bottle and makes a lot of sense.

You may not be "blaming" her but you said she overracted. Absolutley not! I hope you never find me slumped over.

Are you suggesting that the media shouldn't have reported that information, especially since it got that from a government document?

Would you have been the one to tell your boss, "Sorry, boss, but this is not the final report. Therefore, we shouldn't run it."

You would be without a media job.

Not saying that at all. But by 10 am the police stated that this was not a final report and they are still investigating the matter. Etheridge had also reportedly told many in the media that she did not say anything about depression or suicide.

Despite that, the lion's share of the media ran with the story as a clear cut case of attempted suicide. They NEVER asked about what the laws and rules say about how long attempted suicides stay in the hospital for. They NEVER attempted to ask about whether or not attempted suicide can be charged as a criminal investigation. And they continued to speculate on things and treat that speculation as fact.

Numnuts Werder started to speculate that there was a cover up by Owens' camp and the Cowboys claiming Etheridge was frantic in the 911 call and was then later acting like a publicist for him. When Werder was asked if he had heard the 911 tape or talked to Etheridge he replied "no." So how would he know what Etheridge sounded like and what she exactly said?

If lacking morals and ethics is what's needed to be in the media, I'm glad I'm not involved in that industry.

Kind of fishy, huh ...... perhaps there is more to the story than a publicist overreacting .......

Probably in one or 2 of those weekly pill separator things, where you put in pills for each day of the week. He said he separated the pills.
