It's going to be raining defensive backs in the first

The scoop:
"It's going to be raining defensive backs in the first 40 (picks). That is a deep position, but when the run starts, it starts." -- AFC national scout

The skinny: This scout might be right. Even with injured cornerbacks Sidney Jones and Fabian Moreau unlikely to go in the top 40 now, there is still reason to believe that as many as 11 defensive backs could be gone by the time pick 41 comes up.

I've thought about that. If our top pass rushers go off the board, I think we'll grab one of the top CB's before the run starts. Then I could see Willis/Basham or someone round 2. Not optimal but in that case BPA would probably be CB round 1

Aka we might start the run

I agree a team can get healthy with this depth of DB's this year. I am advocating more than one pick for DB's in our first three picks.

It all comes down to value, not whether or not there is a "run" going on.

This draft is deep enough at DB to avoid being caught up in a stampede.

That said, waiting on a pass rusher is far more damaging than not getting a DB. The historical history should tell that story pretty clearly.

If you want a top pass rusher, better get it done early.

If there are no pass rushers at 28..

then I think we trade back and get out of the 1st. Rd. and try to pick up more picks in the 3Rd and 4th Rds.

We don't need a draft like last year.

I think Jaylon Smith is the key.

If he recovers and plays well..

he's another #1 pick we get after the draft.

That's fine. Give me a better pass rusher with all the DBs gone and I'll gladly take one of the leftover DBs in the 2nd. That's just fewer teams who will take one between 41 and 60. I'll be perfectly fine taking someone like the Frenchman, S. Jones, Marcus Williams or a couple others left around.
