Marion Barber has begun to decline. Both our second year HBs have passed him and he is being paid like an every down back.. Do we need a powerful rusher for short yardage and goal line situations? Absolutely! But Barber is not the guy. As of late he has struggled to pick up any kind of substantial yards. He has been bitten by the injury bug often and early since taking over for JuJo. Tashard Choice is becoming annoyed with how few snaps he has recieved and for good reason.
I say we trade barber and get what we can for while we can still get anything and cut our losses. The guy has been great for us but this team has a new level of talent since JuJo left and while Barber may have been the best back on this team at that time that was a long time ago.
My answer for short yardage would be RB Anthony Dixo, this kid is big and nasty and will kill for that yard. would be great on 3 and 1 spots where we have struggled this year. He is projected to be a late 2nd round pick and would be a great pickup if we can grab him late 2nd early 3rd.

My next move isnt much of a problem but more of an annoyence. We have rid ourselves of most of the headcases on this team but Bennett continues to be a problem. I say we trade him for a pick or two or trade Phillips as he may have more value with less upside at this point.
What do we do for a backup TE? Colin Peek Projected 5th rounder and could be the next Jason Witten... The kid is a big target and fast with soft hands OH and a GREAT blocker. We could always use some help blocking... He is a do it all type of TE. His numbers dont scream superstar but he was used alot for pass protection. Great value at early 5 or even a late 4.

With Roy Williams showing that he is not the guy we traded for but rather show resemblence of another stud gone dud who shares his name and Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd nearing the end of their contracts it may be time to start looking for some counter parts to Mr.Austin. I would love to grab Marcus Easley late 5. That is great value. He was a walk on at Connecticut and quickly emerged as the #1 threat at WR. He had the biggest turn around of ever player on the team in a years time and would be a great adition to the Cowboys. At 6 2 with a 4.39 40 yard dashyou cant get a better steal in the 5th.

Another option at WR is Leonard Hankerson at 6 3 he is a big target for tony! He is a Junior but I believe he is declaring... He would be great in the 6th or 7th round.

Our special teams has been steady but how about someone that can make it SPECIAL!? Trindon Holliday!! He isnt the biggest guy in the world at 5 5 but he runs a 4.20!!! Good field position would equal productivity out of our offense. He will most likely be a Rookie Free Agent but I would take him late in the 7th to be sure we get him.

Left defensive end... Lets be honest Spears has not lived up to the 1st round we used on him. Danny Batten (NO NOT THE GUY FROM THE REPLACEMENTS!) is 6 3 250 Lbs. He is tough nosed and likes to hit. He is worth a look at in the 5th if not he could possibly be there later or even as a rookie FA. Oh he has also played Linebacker... Huge steal in the 5th.

Or James Ruffin at 6 4 264 Lbs he is very athletic. He is projected to be a 5th to 6th rounder.

I am still a bit worried about Hamlin and now with sensabaugh wanting a long term deal... I like Darian Stewart in the 7th or possibly a rookie FA. He is a ball hawk who can make the big hit. He rarely gets burnt and would be a great pickup even if only for specail teams use. I think he is a starter though.

Everyone wants some fresh blood on the Oline right? Well my next pick will not disapoint. How about Casey Bender? At 6 6 295 Lbs he would be a great OG.

Newman is getting up there in age, Who knows what we have with Ball and Scandrick right? Well how about some insurance? Akwasi Owusu-Ansah at 6 1 205 Lbs runs the 40 in 4.38 great value in the 4th round.
And/Or!!!! Van Eskridge in the 6th. He is 6 foot 194 Lbs and runs a 4.50 what lacks in numbers he makes up for with heart...

That brings us back to special teams... Sick of screaming OH FAULK!! or SHAUN MISSEM!!!! Yea me to... How about Leigh Tiffin in the 6th? If nothing else let him compete for the job...

Anyway those are my late faves this year. Let me know what you think or add to the list.

And to think we were offered a 2nd round pick from the Bengals for Bennett.

Boy oh boy am I sure glad we decided to turn that offer down. :bang2:

Jerruh should always be looking to the future. One of his greatest mistakes was holding onto the past and rewarding players for loyalty more than they were worth.

This off-season should be about improving at every position. The prime example this season was moving Ellis, a productive player, and keeping Spencer. Barber, along with guys like Newman and Columbo, are good players but Jerruh can and should try and improve at their positions. Until then, keep them.

I do not believe that the younger generation understands the significance of the guy beating the horse to death; and have been giving serious consideration of upgrading that smiley. Instead of the horse, I have been thinking of replacing it with one of these:

This is a serious question. A game ago, he was the hottest playcaller in the NFL.

Now, he needs to be fired?

I have learned that anyone calling him Ginger probably isn't worth your time involving in a discussion if you want it to actually be cognizant and interesting.

Todd Archer has come out as recently as yesterday and stated a 2nd round choice.

So is his simply lying or misinformed? Nobody has confirmed it. His belief is just as valid as your statement which really I have not seen anywhere except for this board.

I'm going to suggest 3 options for the field goal dilemma:

1) I like vets and I think Matt Stover should be brought in: kicking for INdy now but won't be past the playoffs as Vinatieri will be back next season healthy

2) Buehler: yeah, a little out there but why not see what the kid has to offer: he can compete against a vet like Stover and if he falls short is still on the team for kickoffs, etc....

3) Draft this kid from MSU: he was clutch for 4 years and make TWO 52 yarders in one game to clinch a bowl vs. Purdue. The part that impressed me watching it was they were high pressure kicks AND Purdue has natural grass.

Trading Bennett is just plain stupid. The kid has everything to be a great player. You guys lack any real patience.

If we try to sign a Quality wide receiver as a free agent ,what do we do with Roy (hands) Williams:confused:

We pay him alot to sit, or pay him alot to do nothing on the field:confused:

Not sure anyone wants him after his showing this year, so I think a trade is out.

I agree Kaika: hamstrung at WR due to overpaying Roy and having to come up with ALOT more money for Austin: not much will be done there IMO. Hamlin and Flo have big money deals that are restrictive too, but not like RW. Unless he agrees to "restructure" we can't do anything with him. Same with MB3: grossly overpaid for what he brings to the table right now.

RB Trio - One has to go and it should be Barber.

OL - Hopefully Jerry bolsters this part of the team either through a high pick or FA...But it's a big problem...Granted it was the Vikings but Allen & Edwards were getting off the edge as if no one was blocking them - nearly everytime.

Special Teams - This area took a step forward but two back, as well...Losing Folk as the reliable kicker really hurt in a BIG way...Sure would be nice to either see Folk re-emerge from the ashes or Jerry pick up someone more reliable in FA...That and a return threat that actually is a more consistent threat.

ILB - Brooking was great but he's not a longterm solution.

RW - Something will have to be resolved there, I think

We will still be talking about "more better" with him in the summer. He will come out and talk about how he is just going to keep grinding in camp and we will hear all sorts of wonderful things about him practicing well. I am almost hoping for an injury because that is the only way he is going anywhere unfortunately.

Trading Bennett is not stupid when his backup out performed him... Same goes for Colombo, Barber and Williams. This team has great young talent being held back by old declining talent. With a guy like Witten teaching this kid peek he would be THE BEST TE this team has ever seen. That is a guarantee.
Trading barber and bring in Anthony Dixon gives us that short yardage back we need. Watch his video. The kid lowers his head and plows throw whatever is in front of him.
Roy Williams being traded and picking up a big fast WR WHO CATCHES the ball would be a great move. None of these players would go above the 4th round and would all be steals. Wade and Jerry need to wise up. If your backup is playing better then he should be starting. This uncapped year is a chance for us to shed alot of bagage.. Get some draft picks at the same time and add ALOT more youth to this team. If they want to go out and get a Bob Sanders or an Aaaron Kampman then fine but continue the youth movement as well.
