BREAKING NEWS It's official: Cowboys vs Eagles in NFL Opener

lol you are delusional.
Because,............

This is a discussion forum, not an opinion poll. Perhaps you would care to provide some type of rational explanation as to why you came to this conclusion.

For example:

I theorized that injuries will play an important role in who wins.

That's because last season, the Cowboys played the first Eagles game without their starting QB who was 2nd place in votes for NFL MVP just the previous season.

They were also without their starting LT as well as his primary backup.

They were also without their 1st team All-Pro CB and his replacement was a rookie 5th round draft pick

In addition, they played without three their top four DE's and the WR2 was also missing.

You might then respond with facts that question whether or not that would make a difference.

For example:

Well, Plasticman, you made several brilliant points.....as usual.

However, you failed to mention that the Eagles also had some injury challenges of their own. Although they played, A.J. Brown, Darius Slay and Jalen Hurts were limited due to their own injuries.

Do you see how that works?

Now you try it......

Tyler Booker said he want to go against Jalen Carter, welp, welcome to the NFL young buck.

I like it, now there should be some urgency to start fast and get ready as a team. FO needs to go ahead and make their deals because they don't have time to slow play...sign Micah already.

Not necessarily. That will be the hardest game of the year. The Cowboys will get better as the season progresses. The Eagles won't.
This “could” be the hardest game of the season but the games get harder the more you have on the line later in the season. The fact this is a divisional game and they swept us last season AND won the SB should have us extremely hungry and motivated. There won’t be any excuses for the Cowboys not to be competitive. Not to mention this will be a nationally televised game. The Cowboys have a lot to prove and if they get their doors blown off their confidence will be shot. The pattern with the Cowboys is to start fading the second half of the season. They peak early and start hitting a wall. The injuries start mounting.

Their defense and pass rush starts sputtering out and by the time we get to December it’s obvious they’re not going to get far in the playoffs. The writing is on the wall. I’m not saying that will continue but it has been a troubling pattern. You’re saying Philly won’t get better? How do you know? It’s not like they sat on their laurels this offseason. They’re trying to get better like everyone else. Just a slight improvement over last year season will make them a juggernaut. One thing that could have a negative effect on them is if the tush push gets banned.

after the first game last season we were quite optimistic

then in the second the Saints showed us what we were

so the first game is meh to me pretty much all the time

The Eagles will be breaking in a new OC, new RG, new LB with Dean still injured, new edge, new rotational DT, new safety, new 5th DB. They have room to get better. Difference is that they are closer to their ceiling than we are, so we have more room to grow.
Didn’t they break in a new OC, a new RG, a new LB, new safety, and new DB last season? It worked out fairly well.

They have a superior coaching staff. Perhaps the best in the NFL. They recognize their shortcomings and address them. Hurts is on his fifth OC, it’s only his sixth season in the league. The constant OC change may actually be an advantage.

All the negative Karen’s get your posts in now so you can be the “told you so” crew. There is an Eagles board if you want to go slobber all over them:)

Tough task, hopefully they are ready for it,

Yeah. Just a crushing and demoralizing loss. I was believing the hype all offseason that Aikman was going to light it up with Rocket and Galloway at WR. And the defense the previous season in '99 was pretty solid. So i never imagined them being completely torn apart by what was a bad Eagles team in '99.
The pickle juice game was Sept. 2000, and the Eagles went to the playoffs that year. Reid was into his second year of rebuilding the team. So at least we got torn apart by a good team.

Yes my point was that going into that game, the Eagles weren’t considered to be very good based on their 99 season, which made the blowout so demoralizing at that time. Obviously they went on to surprise a lot folks making it to the playoffs.

My opinion (which may be similar to others shared in this thread) is that we'll need to play our starters together in the preseason to get ready for this game. They need to play at least a quarter in each game to give themselves a chance to jell. You just can't completely simulate game conditions in practice.

Season opener on the road in Philly! Gotta love it! Couldn’t ask for a meaner bunch of birds to maul so early!

I don’t see where this opening is being given its proper recognition. This will signal our season for the rest of the year. Our “year defining” game comes right out of the gate in our first.

If we lose in our usual lackluster way then we long suffering fans are going to suffer even longer as we take our usual place among the mediocre as a non-factor in the powers of the league for the rest of the season. But, if we win? Or if we lose in a tight back and forth NFC-East shootout, we will have signaled our presence to the NFL that we are here to kick some ***!

This is the Fan Zone and fans are hopelessly optimistic. I predict that we will prevail on opening night then blaze a trail of glory through the league well into the playoffs. But first we have to come out of Philly with our Stetson still on. THAT is a tall order.
