It's official: Jerry Jones and others do lie on the record.

It is still an assumption that he lied. Until someone, or Jerry Jones himself, contradicts what he said, you are ASSuming. It may be a reasonable ASSumption, but it is still an ASSumption. Only mediots assert speculation as truth. As a side note, I have yet to hear ONE teammate confirm any of the rumors (see Ed Werder) about TO being divisive. So does that make everyone on the team a liar too since they won't "admit" what you KNOW?? TO may be a 14kt you know what for all I know...and I probably know about as much as anybody else outside that team. Please don't take the "connect the dots" approach and call it fact or call someone an outright liar over perception. It actually could be that JJ has invested SO much into Roy Williams that he felt that he should cut bait and go w/the younger one...at least he said that was the reason and for all we know....it could be the truth just as easy as it could be a lie

OOhhh, goodie. A person who figured out how to capitalize ASSumption. I wish I would have thought of that. :laugh2:

Actually, Jerry Jones' actions contradict his statements. You have to look no further than that.

Second, no one has to admit anything. If you know there's lockerroom division, you don't have to address it at all. The players don't have to learn from the T.O. School of Media, i.e., responding to every question as if the world must know their mind and opinions. Simply say nothing. That's as good as anything.

Third, my comments are an attempt to address this naive notion that just because someone says something on the record, doesn't mean they're telling the truth. If you want to extend my statement beyond that, then you're doing as much ASSuming as I am.

See, I can capitalize words as a subtle dig also. ;)

Do you have the quotes? I seem to remember him being very cryptic and not specific in nay of his TO talks.

Oh, I wasn't trying to be subtle:laugh2: . All in good fun though...you always bring a fresh invitation to debate. Ever consider the changing your member name to STRRRRRRRRETCH?

I guess I'm getting too dependent on smilies. :laugh1:

Throughout the T.O. saga, we've been told what people say on-the-record was the truth. Jerry Jones told us T.O. wasn't the source of internal conflict. He's told us that members in his organization weren't lobbying him to release T.O. He and others told us there was no locker room division.

And T.O. defenders would point to these comments as validation that they contained truth compared to sourced material which they denounced as false or fabricated.

I guess we've come to discover that people can lie on the record too. ;)
Jerry lied to the local media and national media about TO when the media is itching to see TO tear this team apart...and you act like this is a bad thing?
Get real!

You and I don't often see eye-to-eye but we sure do here.

Jerry Jones has outright lied to the public and fanbase quite a bit recently.

And this fan is getting tired of being lied to.

"WHAT"S TRUE TODAY MAY NOT BE TRUE TOMORROW."

I find it hard to believe that anyone here has enough inside knowledge to fairly call Jerry a liar.

Obviously, on-the-record stuff can only be taken so seriously, whether we're talking sports, politics or criminal cases.

How often do you hear someone say, "I didn't do it. I swear." Only to admit to it a year later.

Anyway, I think Jerry's lying was fairly deliberate to attempt to mend the fences in the event T.O. did return. Clearly, Jerry's mind wasn't made up a month ago on this matter. I think he tried to dance that fine line where he supported T.O. enough to that if he returned, T.O. didn't feel betrayed, yet at the same time drop enough hints about change and such to suggest it could be a consideration.

Lastly, I don't know that Jerry has ever been known to be 100 percent truthful to the media. Nor should he.

How many times have you seen an owner say a coach's job was not on the line and fire that coach 24 hours later.

Theres a 5 minute clip at NFL.com where Jerry says that cutting TO had to do with salary, performance and age.

You believe that? I don't but I don't know if I would call him a liar. Most definitely 100% full of crap but not a liar. He's not saying those things with harmful intentions, it just looks like he'd rather not throw gas on a fire.

Jerry isn't obligated to tell anyone anything. If he doesn't want to answer a question its his right. Keeping the media in the dark because you'd rather not deal with the **** storm that would follow if you told the truth isn't lying.

Skirting the issue in situations where full disclosure exacerbates the problems is not lying. Neither is refuting "anonymous sources" reports.

The other possibility is that JJ didn't lie, really believed they were going to keep TO, but was talked into releasing him by his son.

I made no moral judgment on lying. Maybe you missed that.

I'm merely saying that those who flash an on-the-record comment don't know if that's truthful or not. People can lie on the record, just as they can be telling the truth on background.

That was my point.

Second, don't say nothing, don't have to deny nothing. ;)

Maybe he wasn't. He basically said there's no conflict between him and Stephen in regards to Owens.

Could very well be true.

He's told us that members in his organization weren't lobbying him to release T.O.

He also said he hadn't made up his mind whether or not to release Owens.

Could very well be true.

He and others told us there was no locker room division.

And what did guys like Sam Hurd, O-Scan, Ratliff and Ellis say?

They didn't really see where Owens was dividing the locker room and being a distraction and that they didn't see the release coming (and hinted that they didn't agree with it).

Oh, that's right. They all lie on the record.

Good grief.

And T.O. defenders would point to these comments as validation that they contained truth compared to sourced material which they denounced as false or fabricated.

And you still have not proven anything that what Jerry said was a lie.

Maybe Jerry felt that with Roy Williams, there wasn't enough 'balls to go around.'

Maybe Jerry didn't like his play for what he was paying and was scared of a possible decline given Owens' age.

Maybe Garrett didn't like him. It's not that crazy that a player may not get along with one coach. In fact, it's pretty rare that a player gets along well with every coach on a team.

Who knows?

But, you certainly haven't proven anything Jerry said was a lie.

I guess we've come to discover that people can lie on the record too

Yet when a reporter reports something from a source, the source is always being truthful?

If you say so.

I just get a kick out of these reporters who claimed Owens was going to be released weeks ago because that's what their 'sources' are telling them and then when it doesn't happen their 'sources' tell them Owens is staying and then when Owens gets released they say 'HEY I REPORTED THAT FIRST, RIGHT HERE!!!'

They remind me of the psychics who make outlandish predictions and when they don't come true they don't bother to bring it up, but when it does come true, they have 'the gift.'

None of this proves Jerry was ever really convinced T.O. was a "divisive force" or that there was any "internal strife."

A number of factors probably weighed into the decision. They have to justify everything they gave up for Roy Williams (draft picks and money). Terrell Owens is coming off a bad season (by his standards, at least). He's 35 years old and will be 36 in December.

They also probably reached the conclusion that their best chance to win is to reel in Tony Romo, and with Owens, Roy Williams, and Witten, there is at least some concern over having enough football to go around to keep everyone satisfied. In reeling him in, they need to run more with their 3-headed monster. They saw how well it worked for the Giants. When they need to pass, they certainly have Witten. Then they have that enormous potential waste of resources in Roy Williams. And a 35 year old coming off a down season.

Plus, Jerry Jones saves $3 million in a tough economy by making this move. Yes, they take a $680,000 cap hit, but they weren't particularly cap strapped to begin with.

Perhaps Jerry just became convinced that whatever small effect all of this media attention had on the team was not necessary given that they were in a very good position to make a philosophical change on offense and execute it properly.

I can tell you right now, Romo isn't going to give you the answers you're expecting.

Not only that, but the flawed logic is that if Jerry was to come out and say that he thought Owens divided the locker room, then we could assume Jerry is lying by Tyke's logic.

It's more or less just thinking people are telling the truth whether or not they are saying what you want to hear.
