Yeah. LOL. He wasn't much of a success early on in New Orleans.

Try again. This same guy you covet now you'll hate two years after his return.

Round and round you go. Like a dog chasing it's tail.
While this may be true, Payton almost got the Saints to the playoffs with Taysom Hill and Trevor Simeon at QB.

How fo you think McCarthy would have performed under those circumstances?

With a combo of Jameis and Tayson Hill at QB, the Saints were road warriors vs some good teams:

Beat GB in Lambeau 38-3
Beat Belicheat 28-13 in NE
Beat TB12 in Tampa 36-27

Sean has done more with less, going 9-8 (including a sweep of Tom Brady). If all it takes is the 24th pick to get him, do it Jerry. He got a lot more to work with here in Dallas.

I think he's going to TV land as an NFL announcer.
I was thinking a studio gig on game day....but the desks are full at CBS, NBC, FOX, and ESPN.
ESPN or the NFL network could bring him on for the daily morning broadcasts.
But it could be good for Payton to be in the broadcast booth. I don't think there are any ex-head coaches doing games for any of the networks on TV (or radio) - all the color commentators are former players.

That game wasn’t in Lambeau but that doesn’t really matter. He did a lot w very little this year.

If McCarthy stays for next season and Sean Payton takes a break by getting a analysts job with one of the Networks that covers the NFL, get prepared for "Will McCarthy be fired, is Sean Payton going to come back to coach the Cowboys." drama with every game the Cowboys lose next season.

True. If that indeed happens it could go both ways. It could motivate McCarthy to go above and beyond and really push the team or it could cause a needless distraction that makes McCarthy and the rest of the team fold. If Jerry is going SB or bust to justify moving on from McCarthy then just give NO a 2nd round pick now, fire McCarthy, and let the Payton era begin. Clocks ticking, Jerry. In more ways than one.

MM will get another year. Payton likely does want a break. MM got 12 wins. It’s hard to move on with that. Even though we failed miserably in the second half of the year. MM may take over play calling now. He will want to make it hard to get rid of him. Get a SB and hmm.

He will take a year off, then see what his options are.
And I do not blame him at all.
Wonder if MM is freaking out. If this is true I bet MM takes the playcalling if he is allowed by JJ. If he don’t he will be very involved.

Fat Mike isn’t changing, the team went into the playoffs as the most penalized team in the NFL and in the win or go home game committed the most penalties in cowboys history..his awful clock management was terrible in GB and even worse here..it’s not changing

Drew Brees wasn't legendary on the Chargers. He was basically Jared Goff level. Payton made him legendary.
Drew Brees was up and coming in SD but SD got scared by the shoulder injury, that ranged from full recovery to limited recovery. Also Brees size at the time scared a lot of GMs he was not the "Prototypical" QB size. In hindsight they were dumb but he was coming up on a new contract with what was thought to be a badly damaged shoulder.

Payton will become the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys before training camp begins. Mike McCarthy is a sitting duck.

Specifics need to be worked out, and they will. Payton has been for ever poised to come back to the Cowboys, he should have never left. Parcells in place is what allowed him to leave.

He did really well in NO. Other than Mike Tomlin, Billichek, Reid and Carroll I dont think there is a better coach or more winning coach in NFL in past 15 years.

We know Billichek is untouchable. The others are entrenched in organizations for the rest of their coaching careers it seems. So Payton is the correct choice to lead the Cowboys for the next 10 years with this core.

He will do wonders with Prescott as he did with Brees.

Why just waste another year to hold out hopes of Payton wanting to coach again? Because bringing back Fat Mike is wasting another year which will end in the same result . Do what it takes now, even if it means giving the saints compensation

I agree, why waste a year?

When you got a crush on the girl next door and she likes you too >>

Whether or not Sean Payton is coaching for the Cowboys, will be getting just as much sports media coverage, if not more than the Conference Championship games coming up this weekend.
