Some people have a problem with the unknown and have to fill it in to be comfortable with it. Even if it's worse than the eventual outcome, knowing is better than not knowing.

New DC and a bunch of new players, more than I think we anticipated with 8, with what was the worst defense in Cowboys history and in the worst possible category, run defense.

People will want to make predictions on players and the season based on what they probably think will happen but when the probable comes into play, the possible takes a backseat.

It is possible that the Cowboys end up with a losing record and no better than 3rd in the lowly East division and also possible that this draft doesn't work at beginning to fix the defense.

But it is also possible that the Cowboys win the East and get past the division round for the first time in 25 years and not only does this draft class work out but one becomes the DRoY and the Cowboys put a couple of defensive players in the pro bowl.

I like the unknown because it keeps the possible possible and it also adds some intrigue and mystery to the season. Anyone here pick the Cowboys to have the best record in the NFC in 2016 with the 3rd string 4th round rookie QB? Didn't think so.

The way I see it is this can go either way or right down the middle. New DC with some new players is a real unknown, he's an unknown with the players from 2020 but I see the possibilities.

So, don't be so quick to fill in the unknown and if you find yourself in a negative lean, ask yourself how you got there, do you enjoy being there and what is the real reward for that? You were right? Does that really feel that good?

The unknown is just full of possibilities and the beauty is to let them unfold. You don't have to be negative or positive, you can be in that sweet spot where I am, I don't know enough to even have a feel for what's going to happen so my expectations do not exist. I will know when I know.

Embracing the unknown always gives you the opportunity to change your opinion. The unknown fosters an open mind.

Unfortunately, it seems that around here, many folks find it more important to be right than to be happy or hopeful. That also means looking at things with a negative perspective, because hey, if being right means good things have to happen, that's just too much to hope for.

This is how I got there:

It doesn't feel good, either.

But I am looking forward to seeing if these new kids can play.

yeah good idea, I am leaning towards the defense will improve.
Mainly due to parsons, and 7 other new def players, of which some should play this season.
Also a new dc, I even gave Nolan a chance for about 6 games.

The defense was so bad last year, they have to improve a little lol, and like you say maybe a lot. Have to wait and see.
Parsons and any of the new guys , who play will make it interesting at the very least.

I think the east div will be better as a whole this season.
Wash also added more def players, so their defense should be better, and they did enough to improve their offense.
Eagles are a big ?
Giants should also improve.
All the head coaches are new 3 are in 2nd year, and 1 eagles,, in his rookie season, but I dont think he is as dumb as his PC made him look.

CC ol' friend, my issue with this draft was this front office took about 3/4 of its draft picks way earlier than where they were rated at. Also, they passed up talent that was rated higher but fell to within arms reach a round or two later. I can see why they chose each player, due to their talents, but I also feel they passed up much better talent in several rounds when those talents were available, thus settling for lesser talent too soon.

For this, I gave them a C+ rating where it easily could have been a B+ or even an A...easily. I hope these picks work out, because we definitely need them to. I will support the players though. As for patience, well, it's hard waiting to see some results but training camp and preseason are only a few months away.

GO COWBOYS!

What's unknown? Since the Cowboys won their last super bowl they've won more than 10 games 4 times. So 84% of the time I was disappointed.

Why is the East a lowly division? The last two times a division winner was under .500, the following season had a team go to the Championship game in 2011, and Super Bowl in 2015.

with the cowboys history this century, it is more likely to be right predicting something negative.
and everyone wants to be right.
I dont really like being right about negative things. That means cowboys are not doing too good.
I want to see them be competitive and look like they know what they are doing. The last 2 years have been pretty much the opposite of that.
But I always wait to judge until after the first 4 games.

Right now I think they just have to be better this season. partly due to last season was so bad, I dont see how they can be that bad again,
but who knows.

Ah yes, the old "have an open mind as long as you think a certain way" argument.

Good post otherwise. I appreciate the positive, negative, possible, and probable, and respect those whose prognostication falls into each. That's what this sort of open forum is based upon. Let's spend less time telling people how to be fans and instead avoid the conversations we don't want to take part in.

There’s a ton of debate surrounding our Boys draft picks, as I had my personal favorites missed or past on also. On the other hand, I don’t pretend to be a scout, so I can on trust their decisions.

That’s said, I take comfort in the fact Dallas recognized their weakness and drafted defensive heavy.

Folks can argue the picks all they want, the fact is.. The worst defense in Cowboys history is much improved already. Ridding themselves of Nolan, Tyron Crawford, and to a lesser extent of underperforming players like ASmith, XWoods, Chido, and sorry to mention my personal favorite.. Sean Lee. Adding current roster players that return from injury like LVE, Hill, Gallimore already help. Also add reliable depth like Urban, Bashman, Kazee, and Neal. Then move Jaylon over for a stud LB in Parsons, a very talented CB in Joseph, and a couple of DTs with promise. We don’t know how Quinn will deploy the plethora of other LBs & CBs.. But we can conclude this defense will be better.

We can say the same ab the offense and the players returning from their injuries..

All I’m saying is.. it’s not doom and gloom. It’s actually more promising than many want to admit.

I do know that McC got part of his desire for speed and energy, he got the speed part. As for the energy, we'll see if they can manufacture some of that because energy usually follows success.

We saw that in 2016 with the team picking up as they progressed through the season.

In the beginning, the coaching staff and leadership have to manufacture energy. There is new blood that was not a part of that defense last season but there are some that need to shed that feeling moving forward that were part of that.

If that's what you got out of my post, that was not the intention.

I have seen so many down because of their unrealized expectations that they'll say "I'm not buying anymore of Booger's spin" and I have to laugh. The times I am in more of a positive vibe about the team and the season has nothing to do with him or anything that comes out of his mouth.

We all look at the same team but with different intentions to validate something we feel. I do not have that this season and haven't had it since I was dead wrong about the 2016 season. I was all prepared for a throwaway season and discovered I wasted time preparing for anything. Should have just let it happen.

I am about this like I am monster movies. The kid in me loves monster movies and especially those that tease me in the trailer and don't show me the monster. The Godzilla v Kong trailers? Terrible. I don't care if I already know what the monsters look like, use the unknown on me and help me use it.

Using that same analogy, this season is the trailer and poster for Alien. There's enough there to create interest and I was primed for the unknown.

Whether one leans to the negative or positive, there's enough known to support either. Embracing the unknown extends all possibilities.

For instance, it is unknown if Big Smitty, Collins and/or Martin will play all 17 this season. But what if they do? This offense will be as good as any in the league.

No only do we have a new infusion of talent , we also have some existing talent and producers returning. The fact Gregory is returning to form a respectable edge rush with Lawrence and Trysten returning with Gallimore developing should provide some increase in production. All we need from our rookies is rotational support.

And if LVE is returning from injury with Jaylon hopefully back to prior level the addition of Parsons could be formidable.

A stronger front four will aide support for a secondary still in doubt not knowing if we have a bonafide starter on other side of Diggs and still weakness at Safety.

Overall still several questions but I’d argue there is some cause for hope in progress. Nowhere to go but up from the bottom.

All I saw from Trysten Hill was a waste of a roster spot who did poorly when he was on the field. Probably why they drafted 2 more DTs in this draft to hedge their bets.

And if this offense is Top 5-10 then our defense only needs to be closer to average than worst for 2021 to show progress and possible success.

GO COWBOYS!

It's funny how much our value changes when you slot Cox in a round or 2 earlier.

At the end of the day they rated some players higher than the consensus. Like they said in the draft show, if they had an idea ONE other team felt the same way then they got him where they had to. We also expected this draft to be strange given the circumstances.

I know where your coming from but it's really difficult to know how this will all work out. I've got about 10 years worth of old draft magazines in my nightstand and couldn't believe some of the write ups lol. Nothing wrong with being frustrated, but there's at least 4 or 5 of these guys Im really excited to see.

Defense actually did improve a good bit last year in the 2nd half of the year when it got healthier and Nolan simplified things.
