take between the two?

Initially, I was leaning towards Iupati.

However, given that Pouncey could play both Center and OG, he could possibly save us a roster space as well. (and probably eliminate the need for Procter too)

Given that we wouldn't need either player to start Day 1 (hopefully), both could be eased into a starting position at OG later in the season. of course, pouncey could play center a few years down the line when gurode retires.

Or, is Iupati just so dominant at OG, that he's a very rare commodity at that position? Like Steve Hutchinson was, for example when he came out . . . .

Opinions?

I dont think we will have a shot at either. Iupati will be chosen before #27 in round 1 and Puncey would be a reach at 27 and will be long gone before we pick in the 2nd.

If I have to choose between the two I'd probably take Iupati, but my guy at #27 has become Nate Allen. Then come out of rounds 2 and 3 with any pair from among Ducasse/Johnson/Jerry/Calloway/Veldeer. Mebbe snag Eric Cook in th 6th or 7th. I think John Jerry is my favorite OL in the draft.

if we can get a speed wideout like Ford, a Safety, ILB, and 1 OL, I'll be happy.

I would take Pouncey.

I think he is better and more versatile.

If he had started at guard for 3 years instead of 1 there wouldn't be any question as to who the #1 guard in the draft would be.

Which ILB/s do you like?

i actually like Spikes. i think he would bring a nasty attitude to the defense.

his production has been down year on year, but that was due to a groin injury.

i'm just concerned that we only have j williams behind brooking/b james. yes, there's hodge, but he possibly has a degenerative knee condition. and with carpenter, he's a nickel guy at best, imo.

Iupati

he will fall right to us

because of he struggled in pass protection at the senior bowl

He has a ton of upside, but he's still raw. I'd be surprised to see him go much higher than this (i.e. No. 17 to the 49ers).

how many times is there a the LA type OG

we can get a Pouncy in the 6 -7

Erik Cook, New Mexico
Height: 6-6. Weight: 315.

Erik Cook played every snap in all 12 games this fall, finishing the season with 88 knockdown blocks, including 49 over the final five games. He allowed just one sack in 470 passing attempts - the most in the MWC - and had just one penalty in 836 plays this year. Cook had flawless technique on at least 80 percent of his snaps in 10 games.

AnalysisPass blocking: Athletic and flexible for his size. Able to move his feet inside against quick tackles, and also to roll out with quarterback in moving pocket. Shows some nastiness and plays through the whistle when mauling inside. Good pop when trying to push his defender away from quick screen. Accurate shotgun snap, getting his head up to see and hit his man. When doubling a tackle, keeps head on a swivel to stay aware of twists and late blitzers. Gives good effort to chase down defenders making tracks toward his quarterback scrambling out of the pocket. Height can be a detriment inside, but his anchor is usually strong. Must get a bit higher on his man's leg to ensure his cut block is effective

Intangibles: Intelligent player who makes line calls. Coaches and teammates call him a leader by words and example on the field, in the weight room and in the locker room

right now for me, Iupati grabs too much and he weighed 340 at the senior bowl, was alittle to fat, yet he knew going in he was going to be playing against some top talent abut weighed to much;

i watched him in the senior bowl, i counted 8 times where he grabbed and didnt use his feet well, overextended his body, etc.

well hes down to #325 now I heard

an good for that holding it will keep the Steelers an Philly from taken him

he will sit a year or 8 games behind Kosier

then he will be a force

While Mike Iupati was solid in run-blocking, he was completely abused in pass protection by Geno Atkins. Iupati was beaten numerous times, was called for holding once, and should have been whistled for holding two other times. Let's not get carried away and call Iupati the best offensive lineman in the 2010 NFL Draft, like Mike Mayock did before the Senior Bowl. Iupati is a tremendous run-blocking guard who is raw in pass protection.

give him a half a year with HH

i've never understood this way of thinking. if he's the player you have identified to fill a need then surely you take him when he's available if you expect him to be gone the next time you pick?

Kiper has Pouncey as the #32 player in the draft, to think that we can get him in the 6 or 7th round is insane. He's very versatile playing both C and G, and with Kosier a year away from FA and Backups like Proctor and McQuistan, he just makes a while lotta sense.

Most of his miscues and bad plays were when he played right guard. Geno Atkins made him look fairly ordinary.

When he was at left guard, he delivered a few quality blocks, including one which sprung for a touchdown.

I also originally favored Iupati, but after watching Pouncey more, he really could be something. If the Cowboys view the two anywhere near the same in terms of talent, Pouncey will be higher on their board because of his versatility.

A Pouncey selection would be bad for Procter. Interestingly, Wes Bunting of the National Football Post has Pouncey (I believe) #10 overall on his big board! I actually don't think Pouncey would be a reach at 27, although I do think there are much bigger needs, such as OT.

Kosier, from what I've watched on film, was actually the Cowboys best lineman all season. Sounds ridiculous, but the numbers back me up.

It is only ridiculous to people who do not have a clue. The team has been very clear about who their highest graded offensive lineman has been and it has been Kosier.

Kosier has been viewed as a weak link pretty much every year by fans, except last year when everyone realized how good he was when he was injured.

Glad there are some well-informed fans that agree. It is nice to talk to true Cowboys fans.
