Ok guys, I think I have the answer to the cowboy players problems.
Its their thinking and attitude. Do you remember when Jimmy Johnson came in, and about 1990, mid season, he told the players your not losers anymore. Those days are past you. Believe me now in what I say. After that the attitude of losing games from 1988, 1989, and first 6 gamers or so in 1990, the teams attitude changed.
Here are some comments from some players, look at what they say!
"It's who we are," Cowboys linebacker Bradie James said Sunday. "When it's our time to win those games, we don't. Evidently, it's not our time."
Forgive James if he sounded fatalistic. The wounds from a uniquely demoralizing 22-19 loss against Washington were raw and painful in the hour after the game.
"We're a middle-of-the-pack team," Cowboys linebacker Kevin Burnett said, "and that's how middle-of-the-pack teams lose."
"This is our challenge. This is our season," James said. "At some point, we're going to have to do something."
AVERAGE ARGUMENT
There are seven 4-4 teams in the NFL, including five in the NFC, including the Cowboys. Coach Bill Parcells believes it'll take 10 wins to reach the postseason. Here's how the .500 NFC teams shape up:
Dallas The schedule for the Cowboys gets easier in the second half of the season, but they must quit beating themselves.
Philadelphia The Eagles have lost three straight and are in a full freefall. They can't blame T.O. this time.
Carolina As a preseason Super Bowl pick, the Panthers have the horses to get back in it but must turn it around now.
Minnesota The Vikings are living on borrowed time. Consider them a pretender, not a legitimate playoff contender.
St. Louis Because of their offensive explosiveness and weak division, the Rams will be in it until the end.
Breaking even
Last season, four teams were 4-4 at the halfway point. Here's how they finished:
Team Final rec.
New England 10-6
So, the Cowboys can do it, but its if they want to pay the price by spending extra time studying film, working with younger players like rayfield wright did with harvey martin, it made harvey all pro and helped rayfield, or like roger staubach would spend extra time with drew pearson, and we all know how that turned out pearsons rookie year.
Taking an old excerpt from herb adderly, whom the cowboys acquired in 1971, after losing the super bowl to colts the previous year. When Adderly all pro cornerback came from the packers, Adderly stated something like I am going to show you guys what it takes to win a superbowl.
And all of us veteran older guys know how vince lombardi taught his players discipline, film study, working out, pratice, pratice and pratice. In other words leave no stone unturned.
So, till these young guys like Witten, Burnett, James, Ware (whom they say doesnt have a mean streak), Newman (whom is playing well below par) Carpenter (whom isnt playing and is a 1st round draft pick-thats sad), Canty, Marcus Spears play with desire and mean streak you can forget it, along with finally finding a free safety that can actually play. Marcus Spears whom stated in the 3-4 defense we now have, Spears, Canty and Fergeuson will never get sacks in that defense, their job is to funnel, stop the run, and allow Ware and Ellis to get the sacks. Thats part of the problem, their attitude and their satisfied at just stopping the run, but no sacks, its not their job.
To me, thats bullcrap, our defensive line coach, Jim Burt, needs to talk to them, get them in the mood. Gosh, I remember seeing the great Leon Lett or Richard Seymour, or Minister of Defense Reggie White get double teamed alot and they still made the sacks. It all boils down, do you really want it, and kick that other teams butt. If not then your just satisfied at being average, and your not the player the cowboys and fans thought you were.
