"Omaha omaha"

then he says "set"

and then the ball is snapped. I think he says it to tell them that the next time he says "set", snap the ball. I recall in a game earlier in the season, that Eli did the same thing.

no if that was the case...the defense would know exactly when the ball is being snapped.

This has been discussed at length on the forum for months... The "Omaha" call is to set the cadence. Everything he says before the "Omaha" call is to move the defense and make pre-snap reads. Then he identifies the protection and most of the time he identifies the Mike linebacker. Then he calls "Omaha" to set the cadence. It doesn't necessarily mean that the next "hut" is to snap it, but if the play was "on two" or whatever, then they snap it on the second "hut". All it does is make the cadence "live".

I spent like 30 minutes one day rewinding and playing on my DVR just trying to figure this exact question out. There was a game earlier in the year (can't remember which one exactly) where the camera was closer, and you could really hear the QBs well. I'm pretty sure he's yelling ONE-EIGHT, ONE-EIGHT, and when he's ready for the snap he very very quickly says ONE-EIGHT-SEVEN, which of course is the police code for murder. So, basically, when Romo says murder, Gurode snaps the ball, and then the offensive line proceeds to do exactly as he said. Wish I still had that game recorded, would love to listen to it again.

If we as fans knew exactly what it all meant, then I'd wager to you that defenses would as well, and that would not be good.

I remember that. Oakland on Thanksgiving maybe? They had the parabolic microphone right up on the line.

I always thought they went into the huddle with two plays called sometimes. So if Romo Reads blitz, he can audible to the other play by saying something like, "Omaha" or w/e. I may be completely wrong, but that's always what I thought.

I'm pretty sure it's "White 80" to set the cadance live. Then to snap is "Ready set."

He'll also yell "56 is Mike" or whatever number the linebacker he determines is probably the Mike 'backer.

He yells "Omaha" which I think as a protection scheme. I think on each play there's something set where either a RB or TE has a route option standard and a blocking option so by shouting "Omaha" that player stay in to block.

When he yells "Kill! Kill! Kill!" He's changing to the second play called in the huddle.

I watch every game and re-watch them for this kind of stuff. I'm not in the huddle, but I'm pretty sure most of this is right.

It's jibber jabber that is meant to just add a little confusion to the defense...much like it does to alot of fans. There is always a check down play called with the primary. Obviously, when the play is "killed", the play reverts to the secondary or back-up play. All the omaha crap is just pre snap fodder that sets the snap count. The actual count is like another poster said...fluid and changes about every down. With that said, I'm surprised that teams aren't getting by Gurode. I noticed him looking up immediately before almost every shotgun snap. Apparently, common sense is pretty rare on the defensive front of our recent opponents. I seem to remember him doing this somewhat in the past and thought he got over it. Apparently not. Hope it don't cause problems for at least 3 more games.:)

Other than the Omaha you hear him call out kill kill, I know for some that means that based on coverage they are killing the initial play and checking off to another play. As one former coach said it will normally take you out of a passing play into a run play or vice versa
