People always ask what inside information can be brought by a coach or a player going against his former team, but usually it doesn't make much difference.
This week it's the Cowboys visiting Philadelphia, where former defensive coordinator Brian Stewart now works as a special assistant to the defense. After Sean McDermott was moved up to interim defensive coordinator when the late Jim Johnson fell ill this summer, Stewart was added to help with the secondary.
Stewart, who had been the secondary coach when Wade Phillips was defensive coordinator in San Diego from 2004-06, ran Phillips' defense in Dallas in 2007, and for the first seven games of '08. Phillips took over the play-calling responsibilities midway through the season, and the team parted ways with Stewart in January.
Is there a chance Stewart could help gameplan for the Cowboys' defense? Sure. But as a division opponent, the Eagles know what the Cowboys do as well as anyone in the league. They put up 37 points against them in the first game of last year, and 44 in the second.
Wade Phillips said the two still keep in contact, though he probably won't call to catch up this week.
"Probably not, not this week. We don't talk about football really," Phillips said. After Stewart went through the spring without landing on another NFL team, he was announced as the defensive coordinator for the California Redwoods of the new UFL before accepting the Eagles opportunity.
"It was a good opportunity for him and I'm glad for him," Phillips said.
