J.J. Watt, Wisconsin: The 6-foot-6, 292-pound Watt was second on his team with 62 total tackles last season (21 tackles for a loss). He also registered seven sacks, one interception, eight pass breakups, nine pass deflections and 10 quarterback hurries. He was the recipient of the Lott IMPACT trophy and named an AP and SI second-team All-American to go along with his first-team All-Big Ten selection. Watt finished in the top five for every defensive line drill at the NFL Combine, including clocking an impressive 4.76 40-yard dash time. Watt had good size and strength at the college level but experts say that he will need to bulk up in order to hold his ground as a pro.
Cameron Jordan, California: The 6-foot-4, 287-pound Jordan could be a perfect fit in New England’s system, considering he played in a 3-4 defense at California. He was a four-year starter at Cal and has a good combination of size, strength and speed with the potential to start in the NFL immediately. But with only 16.5 sacks in his collegiate career, some have questioned his pass-rushing skills. As a senior last year, Jordan recorded a career-high 62 tackles (12.5 tackles for a loss), 5.5 sacks and a career-high three forced fumbles.
A first team All-Pac 10 choice, Jordan ran a 4.74 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine, had a 31-inch vertical leap, and achieved 25 reps in the 225-pound bench press.
