If we do end up signing him and all signs point to Glenn returning who is the odd man out?

TO, Crayton, Glenn, Walker, Hurd, Austin, Stanback

Austin and Turd are relied upon for ST, but Hurd seems to play coverage teams well and I always hear about Austins speed and upside as a WR. Plus he gives us a good return man.

If Stanback doesnt show in TC will he be the one released?

Tough decision....

Well none of those guys are irreplaceable so it really doesn't matter much. If one of them had stepped up we wouldn't even be talking about signing Javon Walker.

Stanback is a project who may or may not EVER be an NFL quality WR. I like Hurd but he is inconsistent and Austin has yet to impress as a WR so we still don't know much about him.

Give me a guy who can get separation, run routes, and catch the ball over a fast guy every time. Now if we can find a fast guy that can do those things we are set. :D

Actually, if I had to choose between Austin and Stanback, based on their likely playability, I would go with Stanback as the better return guy since neither is likely to play much at WR.

If I had to pick one, I would say Glenn. Glenn and Walker are basically the same, speed receiver with questionable knee that do not play ST. We only activated 4 WR in most of the 2007 games.

I'd like to keep Crayton, Hurd, and Stanback with respect to our WRs (not including TO, of course).

Stanback mostly because we knew he'd be a project, and we should hopefully start seeing some return on investment this season.

I guess if we get a WR in FA, like Walker or whoever, Austin's position is in jeopardy.

Now, if we also end up drafting a WR early who is a lock to make the team, I guess the decision is then between Glenn and Hurd and the draft pick.

And this is why Walker's health situation is so important. If we keep both Glenn and Walker, and both of these guys are injured during the season (esp. the later half of the season), we're in trouble again.

If Glenn is 100% then he is still a very good WR and would make a nice trio with Owens & Walker. It would also give us depth since all 3 guys are prone to injury. Owens not as much as the other two but he was nicked up at the end of the season and it would be nice to have two other guys that can play if that happens again.

You make that kind of decision in training camp and the team may be going only with one FB so that would open another spot somewhere.

I agree that TG is a very good receiver. But all the reports indict he and Walker will need knee surgery. My concern would be having two WR with knee problems. TG would have about a year to rehab, but I'm not convinced he will be 100%.

If we keep 6 WR instead of 5, I would probably say cut Austin. Then you have to cut another position and find other ST players.

You need to look up the reports then, because Walker doesn't need any surgery. The quote everyone tries to use for that is one by Shanahan and he was saying he might need microfracture in 4 or 5 years. (and he was using this to explain why they were letting go of him) Walker and his agent say that isn't even the case according to the doctors. Glenn has decided to put his microfracture surgery off for at least one more year. We'll see in camp if it holds up or not.

The reports I have read say he may need microfracture surgery. Who put that out there I don't know. I would only expect his agent to say he is OK, but the doctor(s) will have to determine it. One article said he had three surgeries already. He has only played one full season in the last three. Those things indicate he is injury prone.

TG is going to try to play this year but it has been indicated he will need surgery after he retires.
