IRVING, Texas – Keith Smith has gotten used to the ride at this late point in the season.

The Cowboys called the rookie linebacker up to the 53-man roster on Wednesday afternoon after making the decision to place Jack Crawford on injured reserve.

It’s not exactly new territory for Smith, as he has bounced between the practice squad and the active roster several times throughout the season. The Cowboys’ persistent injury problems at linebacker have necessitated that movement, and this week it will be Dekoda Watson’s hamstring issue that will give Smith an opportunity on game day.

He shows to be a free agent but I saw a post or report that said they extended his contract.

I'm sure they can re-sign him for cheap if they haven't already.

There are articles saying he won't be active for this game. Marinelli said when he is ready to play he will let us know which makes me think that he isn't in good enough shape to take a roster spot.

I would like to think that he is not, but they immediately brought Smith back in to fill the live roster spot instead of activating Coleman off the practice squad.

Ultimately, I do not think it matters, but we have one less player to rotate into a weak line.
