Something I read looked interesting...

"Jacques Reeves was targeted on 21 percent of charted passes against Dallas, the highest percentage of any cornerback in the league.".

Considering he was thrown against more than ANY other CB in the league, how do you feel about his performance?

He has nowhere to go but up?

I don't think he did too bad considering he was thrown to the wolves and is really just a 3rd/4th corner in this league.

he is getting valualble experience. Just because he is being thrown at, does not mean he sucks. The offense throws at him because he has the least experience. He will be alright.

In a way, it is a double whammy for Jacque Reeves. Our offense is SO good that so many teams were playing catchup, i.e. forced to pass. And when they did, they seemed to throw against him.

One COULD make the argument then, since we are 13-3, that he is a better than average CB in the league.

Things that make you go Hmm...

He's been serviceable. He's the guy that teams target, but outside of the first two weeks he hasn't been horrible. I kind of feel for him because he has truly been a serviceable CB (there are far, far worse CB's in the league) but it seems like all somebody has to do is point out that he's the most targeted CB in the league and everybody assumes he's awful. Times targeted is just a small part of determining the quality of a CB. It's kind of like judging a RB soley on rushing yards, when there's things like YPC and TD's to consider.

After being thrown into the fire since the first game of the season I believe that he has steadily gotten better. He still gives up too many plays but he has also made some big plays along the way. It is all about confidence and his is growing.

As a starter he is not yet there. As a package corner, he is good enough. The key is that he is getting better and as he continues to gain experience he will gain confidence which will lead to making more plays.

I remember last season when the opponent threw the ball deep we all knew it was going to be bad for us. This season I don't get the same sense of impending doom and a part of that is because of Jacque Reeves.

And just because teams throw his way does not make him a bad corner- it simply means he is the best choice for them. Another way of saying that Newman and Henry are better. What a stunning revelation that must be, huh?

Check it out, most targeted dbs:

Jacques Reeves, DAL: 21%
Nate Clements, SF: 20%
Will Allen, MIA: 20%
Ike Taylor, PIT: 20%
Marcus Trufant, SEA: 19%
Sam Madison, NYG: 19%

For such a bust he keeps some pretty good company.

At the end of the day, it isnt about statistics, its about what you do on the field and there's nothing impressive about him. He may be still learning the ropes, but some people just arent meant to be and he's still giving up big play after big play as the weeks follow. For just one play, he goes in against Carolina and he gets preyed on. Then, he does the same thing the next week against Washington on multiple occasions. If he's not focusing on the QB instead of the receiver and giving up the big play, he's just backing off to let the receiver catch it and give up a 1st down or more. Just remembering that small gain turned TD he gave up to Donte Stallworth of all people was embarrassing. Im not saying he should be overaggressive and hurt himself anymore, but he plays it too safe.

Well, the Cowboys won 13 games, so it is safe to say he didn't cause the season to go down in ruins.

I think he did all right, He certainly is a lot better now than he was in his first start.

I think teams would rather throw against him than Newman or Henry.

Reeves is a decent #3 and nothing more to me. If we go against a team that has a good #3 WR, I'm not confident Reeves will make the play if the ball is thrown his way. We either need a very good CB in FA or the draft (my preference) this off season.

I think our opponents think he was our weak link in the secondary, obviously...

there is nothing there folks. he is not good. there is no upside on someone who simply lets any and everyone catch the ball...then tackles them. playing cb is so much more than covering. the art of anticipation...understanding down and distance....taking proper angles....he shows none of this.....we have draft picks...we have cap room....we are the most storied franchise in the super bowl era....you do not settle for jacques reeves with that type of background.

Dallas will no doubt address the CB position in the off season but that's neither here or there right now because he's our 3rd CB in the playoffs...

Reeves did alright for being thrown in there. With more experience at starting he could be one of our future 2nd or 3rd CB's.
