Jacques Reeves

oh well, look away when its a pass play, cause till he scares the hell out of Parcells, hes gunna hit the field every once in awhile.

he's alright...as close as he was to being the goat, he did just enough to disrupt that catch, though.

well done.

Reeves gave up an easy completion on a quick slant because he didn't get any bump on the receiver coming off the line, but on the other plays he was in perfect position. The receiver almost caught a badly thrown pass, but Reeves reacted well, and slapped the ball away. He had a shot at an interception on the last pass because he was right where he was supposed to be. Last year people blasted our corners for not looking for the ball. Reeves looked for the ball and that allowed him to make the plays he needed to make. I thought he did well, especially considering how rarely he actually gets to play corner in a game situation. Some people may not like Parcells as a coach, but he is clearly a great judge of talent and apparently he saw more from Reeves than he did from Thornton. Reeves isn't Henry, Newman, or Glenn, but for a fourth corner, he had a great game.

listen to me next time a cornerback is the discussion.

i said thornton>>reeves and jones a million times.

but oh well, not to rub it in or anything:)

Here's the deal in my eyes: Reeves DOES scare the hell out of me. Unfortunatly, he HAD to be out there on the field. We were in a Dime or Nickle Lineup (I think Dime) and those formations require 5-6 DBs. Without Henry and Pile, that gets us down to our 3rd and 4th CBs, so there was really no choice.

Reeves made a decent play by shaking up the eaGALS WRs "foundation" hand when he was still trying to get better possesion of the ball. Yes, TO would have made this catch, but we got lucky and the rookie just didn't have enough control when Reeves tapped the "foundation" hand to disrupt the pass enough to make him drop it.

We should have BOTH of them, Henry & Pile, back soon, if not by the next game, so we will be a lot deeper in the defensive backfield again :)

Ummm I expect him not to get beat on a lob by the 3rd String QB with under a minute left....

The WR didnt cacth the ball, therefore he wasnt beaten. He made a nice recovery to strip the ball from brown. The guy is the 4th corner on the team i have no complaints.

Thornton hasn't shown anything in SF. He's the starting CB due to injury -- he has two Passes Defended and one INT. He doesn't tackle -- he only has 9 on the season. He's a starter on the worst pass D in the NFL (yep they rank dead last).

I'll give you that Thornton is slightly better in coverage - but he has some major holes in his game that make him a less complete player. How does a corner, on a team that has given up over 200 completed passes end up with fewer than 10 tackles? That stat right there tells you something important about him. It says he isn't physical enough.

Just imagine the criticism Reeves would be getting if he had allowed more than one completion in the game.
Not only did Reeves play pretty well, but so did Glenn. However, whether it's due to playing a different side for the first time this year or something else, I thought it was pretty clear that Henry does a better job of locating and playing the ball than Glenn did on Monday night.

We're awfully lucky to have him, but playing the ball seems to be one of Henry's strong points.

Personally, I hope they sit Henry till after Thanksgiving unless he's 100%.

Main thing was he does not play special team and when your the 4th CB on the team you have to be able to contribute some where after all a team only has so many spots on the game day roster. As far as the play from Reeves he did about as well as can be expected

I would also add I think Philly running game would not have been as effective had Henry played. Philly was bouncing a lot of runs to the outside and Glenn was being effectively blocked by the WR. Henry is much more physical than Glenn and does a better job of coming up on the run. This is not a knock aginst Glenn, overall I though Glenn did a decent job.

Why doesn't he play special teams?

Not being a physical player has a ton to do with that.

Point blank -- if Thornton is on this team, our ST play would be worse. And that may cost us a close game or two.

I agree. My point is I think Dallas kept Reeves over Thorton because Reeves is part of the special teams unit and Thorton wasn't.

In close situations like WAS/SEA/PHI I would expect our free safety to double cover the opposite team best receiver and let their 2nd/3rd best receivers beat any man to man coverage, especially if their best receiver is covered by our 3rd corner (Glenn against moss, Philly Game). In Philly game, I didn't see Keith Davis anywhere close to Reeves and to let teams lob passes over the middle in desperation is not good for our defense

Agreed -- as a pure cover corner Thornton is better. But your 4th corner needs to tackle and play ST. Thornton either couldn't or wouldn't.

If I saw the video correctly, Roy Williams played the under route so there was only a saftey in the middle of the field. It was a well designed play, but I think that Henry would've made a better read on the ball... I am still scared when Reeves is on the game. I know that Henry blew some coverages earlier in the season, but he is a bigger CB who would've been able to slow the WR down more by bumping him at the line.

Not trying to compare the two, but I am saying that Reeves would've not been in the game at that point if Henry was healthy. Reeves did his job well-enough on that play, but he could've done so much better. It was an incompletion, so the job was done, but we got lucky... TO would've made that catch with Reeves defending him like that.
